Oil Change Afterthought?

Hi, just wanted to say this forum has been VERY helpful but I am a little confused about the amount of oil to add. I just finished changing the oil & filter on my 2009 Mini Coupe (base non-turbo).

I had previously perused the posts here and decided to use the Mini approved 0-W40 Mobil1 oil and a Mini filter. I put in 4.5 quarts, ran the car, let it sit for a few minutes and the dipstick sort of showed 1/2 way up. It is a crappy dipstick for sure. Anyway, I just went ahead and put the full 5 quarts in.

In retrospect I see that many people have posted that 4.5 quarts is right AND others have stated that 5 quarts is what the dealer puts in (supposedly intentionally). SOOOOOOOO, I am crossing my fingers that 5 quarts is a safe amount. I really don't feel like draining oil - it was a major pain

Is my Mini going to self destruct??!!

No. It's OK just drive around.

Make sure you check oil on a level surface and when engine is cold.
