Hamann Carbon Fiber Steering Wheel

Hi All,

I just impulsively bought this Hamann Carbon Fiber / Leather steering wheel on Ebay. I've never seen one of these before, and most likely it's a somewhat rare find.

I have a 2003 MCS with the 2 spoke multifunction wheel. From the pics, I'm assuming this should fit just fine. Does anyone have experience swapping steering wheels? How hard is it going to be to transplant the steering wheel controls and airbag from my 2 spoke to the new Hamann 2 spoke?

Thanks!

looks pretty cool. If its anything like swapping steering wheels on my S2000 then its pretty straight forward. I would definitely remove the ground on the battery and let the system sit just to make sure there is no residual current in the SRS system. Probably overkill but airbags are no joke. If they made a 3 spoke version that would be cool to see.

Taking the wheel off is super easy, and the old stuff should just pop into you new wheel since its also a two spoke. Do a search for pics, but there are two tabs you need to press with a screw driver-ish tool behind the wheel. That will pop off the air bag which gives you access to the bolt. Its something that can be done in a half hour once you know what to look for. Nice wheel!

Finally installed this. It's amazing! This is such an amazing swap if you have a 2 spoke wheel and don't want to convert to 3 spoke for the JCW wheel! Uses all of the factory radio controls, etc. Looks like it is an OEM option almost.

NASCAR.. it's actually a lot thicker than the standard Mini steering wheel, and the entire back is contoured. The factory stereo and cruise controls fit in it, and it looks very OEM.

I had a crappy OEM vinyl steering wheel and it started peeling.. So this was a great upgrade.

Yep it's carbon fiber and leather. I have no idea where else someone could find one of these. I randomly found this on ebay in Malaysia! Got it for about $280, including shipping, and it was a steal.

Garbino (a Japanese company) makes a very similar wheel which doesnt seem to be contoured as much.

They also make the best body kit available for the R53 I've seen. Looks better than the factory aero kit. No one seems to have these products in the US though.

I don't think anyone in the US sells the Hamann wheel..

Thats a really awesome wheel, and personally am very jealous.

Agreed about that garbino kit. Handsdown the best looking one for the MINI, to bad the US dollar isnt worth crap anymore.
