A bug or a feature?

2008 Hardtop.

Did some searching, but can't get a definitive answer...

The power windows, one-touch up thing. Is that flaky on all of this model, or just mine? I almost always have the window kick back down when it gets up to the top. I'm hoping mine is an exception.

I'm asking because I need to take it in for an issue with the stereo, and want to do the two birds, one stone thing.

Thnx for any insight.

If the door is open, that is what is supposed to happen, not closed though. Anytime you open the door, it moves down and recloses once the door is shut.

Mine does that if I hit a bump while it is going up, for instance when pulling in to my driveway. I always assumed that it was reading the bump as something being in the way of the window so it would roll down, similar to if you tried to roll your hand up in the window.

My first MINI did that. Had it reprogrammed at the dealer and it never happened again.

My window started doing the same thing......MINI service reprogrammed it and it has worked since. Just let them know, I believe it is a common issue.

This is a well-known issue. There are a couple of threads here regarding this. MINI had a service bulletin (PUMA? whatever that is) about it, IIRC.

My '08 Cooper started doing this more than a year ago. I took it to the dealer and they found stored fault codes for the Hall sensors in both driver's and passenger's windows. They replaced something called the FRM or "footwell module" and reprogrammed the vehicle computer, all under warranty. Problem solved, and it has not recurred since then.

I think there's a trip to the nearest MINI dealer in your future...

It's only supposed to do that if the door is open. If it does this while the door is closed, it's possible that there is some dirt that the sensor is picking up and causing this issue. Try cleaning the surface that the window comes into contact. Another thing that could be the case (this happened to me because i'm in a hot climate) is that the plastic is getting stuck onto the window causing the sensor to again pick up interference. My MA told me that it's common and they rectify this by "lubricating" the rubber peices surrounding the window (I apologize for my lack of correct terminology). A final thing is that the door may just need recalibration. Your MA again can do this for you.

This is more than a common issue.

Do some searching and you will find that it is a problematic issue that MANY MANY people have had.

Re programing by the dealer is the bets bet to fix it properly.

When did this new fix come about?

I've had mine reflashed 6 times now, and it has still yet to be fixed.
The last time they reinitialized it was maybe 6 months ago or so.
I don't want them to reflash it again as it may change my ecu version and disrupt functionality of my RMW tune =\

Sometimes is doesn't happen for a week or two, sometimes its everytime. I'm pretty sure it has to do with a combo of heat/humidity and the weather sealing around the window causing tension/pressure as its trying to go up.

Huh, my 2010 MCS doesn't have the one touch auto up? I thought that was kind of lame. Maybe it is just broken...

In order to one-touch auto-up the door needs to be close and you need to just briefly tap the window switch (up or down should both work).

I am pretty sure you should have it. Roll down the windows and take the key out of your FOB and lock the car with the door tumbler, but keep holding lock until the windows start to close, they should both close normally and all of the way.

I got mine fixed in June of '09, more than a year ago. The tech said that there was a service bulletin about the problem, my car was within the build date "window" to have the footwell module replaced under warranty. They did this before re-flashing the computer, and the windows have worked perfectly since then.

BTW, re-programming the vehicle computer took a long time, I had to leave the car overnight. The tech told me that they just plug the car into their computer and start the process, the computer does everything else. He said that sometimes it only takes a few minutes, sometimes hours - no way to predict. They gave me a nice BMW loaner, so I didn't care.

Was your footwell module replaced? I think that plus the re-program was the key for me.

I'm just guessing, but a re-flash will probably screw up your RMW tune.

BTW mine is an'08 justaCooper, build date May 2008 delivered June '08.
