R50/53 Problems with right rear brake light! 2004 R50!
Problems with right rear brake light! 2004 R50!
So my right rear brake lights do not want to work! Brake is applied, I get nothing. I lock the doors, I get the light, but nothing when brake is applied. I've checked the fuses and the bulbs and they all seem fine. Any ideas fellas? I have taken the actual light housing and removed it and swapped it with the left one (it works fine, the problem doesn't follow)
HELP!
HELP!
Sounds like the BCM has an issue....
There are a few threads around...
Some folks had the issue after having had a jumper in to make the rear fog an extra backup light...overtime the little amplifier on the bcm board that makes the light lightup wears out from being having to overdrive the 2 bulbs and or the current backfeeding on the rear fog wires if a diode is not used on it. Solution/prevention to it is to use a led for the extra bulb....
If the failure has already happened, a new/remanfactured BCM from Mini is needed.
This is a worst case....so before you freakout, check the grounds, etc, like you did swapping the assemblies from side to side, but check the ground on the affected side with a multi-meter...if that is good, the issue is up stream..in the wireing, unlikely, or the BCM.

The Cursed BC1
Where is this BC1 at anyway? I know it's in the right kick panel but where? Anybody got a pic? Tomorrow I'll break out the multi-meter and chase the wire runs... I PRAY its not the BC1!
