HELP! Need tensiner tool
HELP! Need tensiner tool
Last night I shredded my S/C belt and need a tensioner tool to get the new belt on. If there is anyone in the denver metro area who has the tensioner tool and will either let me use or buy it, send me a PM.
Wish I could help you out - I have the tool - but I'm in the KC area....
Don't forget to investigate why the belt shredded while you're in there, it's often a failed bearing in the tensioner pulley. Putting a new belt on a bad idler means you get to do it again, very shortly.....
One suggestion, the KC area MINI Club used club funds to buy the tool to have it available for all Club members, maybe 5280 has done the same, or will?

Yep it has been on the car for about 30,000 miles, and was starting to slip pretty bad. I think that it just got hot, stretched out and distroyed itself.
All of the idlers and pullies spin pretty freely, the S/C still feels nice and tight, and the tensioner still has all of its pressure.

Also, for future reference, when i did my engine swap, I just used a long iron bar that. It was sort of L shaped, and it would butt up against one of the bolts and provide the leverage needed. It requires two people and you need to be careful to make sure your fingers are never in a place where they could be crushed, but it can be done for 5 dollars. Just my 2 cents.
