Considering purchasing a 2011 MCS.

I am considering purchasing a 2011 MCS. The early R56 MCS had some common issues like cold rattle starts, engine carbon build up, and HP fuel pump failures. Is there evidence that Mini has corrected these issues in the updated car? Thanks for any input.

There have been rumors that they have, but no one knows for sure yet because the 11's are just rolling out. It seems to be the luck of the draw on the 'older' cars - some 07's like mine haven't had all but minor issues, while some 10's were dying at the intersection by the dealer after being delivered and driven off of the lot.

I think that the problems you mentioned have been dealt with. Haven't been aware of an specific repeat problems with 2010's. I think you can probably purchase a 2011 with a fair degree of confidence.

No guarantees, but the talk of the issues you mentioned are down for cars built after '09. Now.... that could be that those cars are newer, but many of the issues in the '07 and '08s started pretty early in ownership.

The flip side of it all is that most cars have experienced none of these issues.

Brad79,

I'm not claiming to be a broad Mini expert, nor am I employed by BMW/Mini. However, I conducted months and months of research through NAM and Motoring File prior to purchasing my 2011 MCS. I am very type A and I have no regrets thus far. I'm the type of person that would notice any tick or rattle. No complaints so far...

I hope you agree. I think you made the right decision. Enjoy your new ride!

Congratulations on your new baby! I really love my '11 MCS hartop but I loved my '10 as well. I'm really hoping those changes mentioned above help with the earlier problems. Also, even though I'm still in the break-in period, just the few times I have run it up through the gears, I can tell there is more power. I can't wait until the 1,200 mark!
