Another Enging Pinging Thread. 2006 Cooper S (auto)
Hey Guys, I'm getting engine pinging when I'm accelerating ( merging on to the freeway, etc.. ). If I have the air condition on I can hear it more when I accelerate. It's not consistent but sometimes I can hear it and other times I don't. It sounds similar to little pebbles hitting your window or rocks in a tin can.
I know pinging is not good and was advised by tons of people to baby it when I drive which I've been doing. I'm located in Southern California and I use 91 octane fuel.
Here is some background on my car.
2006 mini cooper s - Automatic with 61,000 miles, I've had my 60k service done as well.
Mods:
Would my issue be related to my tune and perhaps my fuel injectors aren't big enough to handle the tune set up, correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the stock COOPER S injectors 330cc.
Also related I was advised by Mynes that I needed bigger injectors and a retune to correct the engine pinging but I wanted to make sure the smaller easier fixes are fine before I do that since that is a lot of money and I've already had it tuned to begin with.
Any thoughts and expert advice would be much appreciated!

Jan @ RMW has fixed my problem/ So today is a good day!
After jumping through numerous hoops my engine pinging has been resolved... RMW worked on my car today in the blistering heat in Southern California.
I had a RMW cam installed, 440 injectors and a street tune based off my last ecu reading. The camshaft definitely makes a difference holy shii... I still need to get it on the dyno to tune it, what I currently have now is a lot more safer and no pinging what so ever.
Oh on a side note. I got a fix it ticket for tinted tail lights and side markers in Irvine. I've had them on for about a year. GG.
