'08 brake pads different?

Greetings all,

Picked up a set of OEM replacement pads from local parts store for my '08 standard coupe, only to find that the pad guides are not the same. The new set has hook shaped guide pins while the originals (first brake job on car) are a simple pin shape. It looks like I could grind off the hook part and the remainder would fit the groove and be servicable, but I really don't want to modify what should be stock parts. I've done some on-line shopping, only to find the hook shape.

Also found that there are no pins on the piston side pad (at least the side that I started to replace). Thought that was curious...

Any help is greatly appreciated.

not sure I follow the difference you try to describe but checking a couple of pad brands I find only 1 part number for GEN2 just-s-cooper so my guess is you got the wrong pads. I'd not try to modify them. I'd return 'em and maybe go with something else..... EBC, HAWK??

Altho I did buy a set at an AutoZone for a GEN1 and they fit fine - no differences from what I was taking off . . .

**edit, see below, I believe the question is are GEN2 pads different from GEN1 and the answer is yes . . .

Wait is you 08 an r52 or a r56? If it is an r56 is it a MCS or MC? Than I think we can help you out.

I'm reading

my '08 standard coupe

as a just a cooper

but in any case there are differences in the GEN2 pads for a justa vs an S vs JCW but not for various years of either so far as I can tell.....
###### wait ....
are you meaning a 'hook' like this?

That's a rear GEN1 pad for an S (ignor the clips) - GEN1 pads had a hook and my GEN2 pads don't . . .

a GEN2 front:

You've got GEN1 pads there I believe . . .

To answer the question, I have an R56 MC - (second generation coupe, not sport). I bought the pads based on year and model... good possibility sales clerk punched up MCS on accident (reciept says "2008 - any engine").

A picture really is worth 1000 words! Capt BJ, the lower pad is what I have on the car while the upper is what is in the box (minus the springs). I'll return that and open the box in the store this time.

Thanks to everyone for helping.

Returned wrong pads and decided to just run over to the Mini Dealer for parts (pads and rotors). Spent a couple hours Sunday afternoon watching my son do the work...

Job done, father son bonding complete, Mini back on the road! Thanks again to all for advice.

father and son bonding is not something to be scoffed at

got to do that teaching the son how to change oil recently

to get that opportunity beyond a video game today is significant

good for you on two fronts .... right parts and bonding
