Anyone know where/how to install bonnet straps? I bought a set for my Mini since I'm having problems keeping the bonnet closed (and I like the look of them) but they didn't come with instructions. :(

 

bonnet straps never came on a factory car so where you put them is up to you. How to put them on? Decide where and start drilling . . .

This is a case where having access to a stack of Mini World mags can help as you find pictures of just about every possible tie down and every one is mounted a wee bit different.


You'll also see that you have different options up to a point with a MK1 vs later years because of the grill lip on the bonnet. Here's how mine is held down - the entire front clip is glass so there are no hinges - my straps and clips are functional and necessary... and the type of strap/clip plays in too of course.





I've seen leather staps taken to the corners or wrapped under the bonnet lip and then inside to the cross member; sometimes top of the cross member, sometimes bottom (as the MiniWorld cover above shows). And of course the original IJ cars had straps that ran the full length of the bonnet.
