I was wondering how many types of steering wheels were available for a GEN1 MINI S with paddle shifters and are the different air bags that go along with them or are they universal? Only reason i ask is that i recently had a custom steering wheel done and i noticed that the trim pieces on the spokes were a little different than what i have which is ok I like the ones on the new wheel better but will the new wheel work with what i have there now?

 

there are a lot different arrangements. 2 spoke and 3 spoke, with and without steptronic, with and without multifunction, leather, vinyl, plastic, different trim and colours for OEM plus wheels. You need to find out what the old steering wheel was from and I can tell you

Yeah, so thats the newer R56 3 spoke.... came on 07/04 to 12/06 in hard tops. Obviously has multi function and is from an Automatic. You take off the steptronic paddles but then theres a hole in the back where the trim is smaller

 

Is that the steering wheel you want to install on your 1st gen? It's a 2nd gen wheel and I think it's incompatible (unless it just has 2nd gen spoke covers on a 1st gen steering wheel).

 

Are the spline different or will it work on my 2006 MCS

 

I don't know about the spline. The airbag is definitely different.
