Has the novelty worn off?
Has the novelty worn off?
I'm tempted, boy, am I tempted but I fear that after a while, the novelty of driving a MINI will wear off.
I have a '06 Dodge Magnum, small V6, is a nice cruiser on the I-90 and I put about 18k-20k miles a year on my vehicle. There's some nice used MINIs around here for a reasonable price but....
Thoughts appreciated!

I've had my car for nearly 8 years and I'm still in love. It is a smoldering love, I guess. Every run to redline or corner taken at speed are like bellows blowing on the hot coals.
For some though, the novelty wears off, and little mechanical issues would really put them off. But I think that these are the folks that cycle through cars every few years or get bored easily.

I too was worried about the novelity of a MINI wearing off before I sold my BMW 3 series convertible and bought a 2009 MCS Convertible. I have had it since last June, driven it about 11,000 miles (I live near the office) and still love this car more than any I have ever owned.
It literally squirts from redlight to redlight. Wonderful handling, great brakes and oh so tossible. It is hard to describe but the MINI makes going to the grocery store fun. My wife's car is a 2006 BMW 530. It is a great car but I always drive the MINI. On trips, on the interstate, around town..I always choose the MINI.
So in my case - the thrill is still there!! Good luck.

Hasn't worn out for me the slightest after 2+ years and 40k miles. As a matter of fact, if you're calling owning a MINI a "novelty" you're way off imo, it's more of an obsession than anything.

Are you located in Illinois? If so, where?
The novelty never wears off. My wife had a new 05 MC. Now, we find ourselves getting back into an 03 MCS. More power....More power.
Bite the bullet and get one. You will never be upset. And, I believe if you get a newer MCS, it will probably smoke your Magnum. They are very fast. And with a few tuning mods, they are wicked fast.

i don't think the novelty will wear off. I've had mine for almost 2 years and i still think it's the most fun car i've ever owned and i've owned some good ones (RX-7, 3 series, Boxster).
Plus MINI people are nice people. If you're so inclined you can get involved with your local MINI club and have a blast meeting and driving with other people who are passionate about their cars.

I wanted a MCS from the first time I saw one in 2002.
Of course, I already had a 1978 911 Coupe; but I still loved the look of that MCS.
Well finally this year after alot of research, I found a Silver MCS loaded just the way I would have ordered from the factory.
I sold my Porsche and smile every time I get in the Mini !
I had my Porsche for 17 years, so who know how long the Mini S will be around.

I have put 60 k on mine in 2 years, Also have 4 other cars in the stable, Actually just turned in the Hemi Charger and prior to that a 300 C. Not bored with it at all, and always looking to make some changes to it. Great car for the weekends or daily driver. Also great for weekend getaways with that special person you may have. Only time I choose another car is if I have something formal that i need to attend to in the city, The Mini does not like pot holes

There is a novelty factor, but if it wears off you'll still have a decent performing automobile that gets over 30 MPG in mixed driving. Both my wife and I have 80 mile daily commutes, and there's no car out there that can compare to the performance versus economy that this car delivers.
The fun of driving the MINI doesn't wear off....our family is on it's third since 2003. However, for long interstate driving, my Chrysler 300 is preferred! I have a 1200 mile trip coming up next week and then a 2200 mile trip the following month and I just find the bigger car more comfortable for such a long trip.................I know....don't all pick on me at once....

After 8 years, I still love my MCS. Even though Fizzgig has been off the road for almost 2 years. At some point I'll have him back on the road and I'll be smiling and waving at every mini I run across.

On my 2nd MINI. The novelty factor never wears off. There's nothing cooler than cruizing down the highway in the middle of nowhere and watching heads turn and seeing their facial expressions as you drive by. When we do club drives, we like to wave at the locals.

Although I should add that I just drove to LA from NYC in MY MINI and it was a lot of fun but by Colorado I was thinking it would be nice to have a tiny bit more space with a toddler in the backseat.

I would also agree, and after owning the 300 C it was a great long haul car, that and my Blown lincoln LS were the 2 best cars for anything over 500 miles
I had a mustang gt (2006) before my clubman. After it was was in an accident and I got a mini because my brother likes his so much. To start it was just a car to hold me over till I could get one of the new muscle cars but now 7 months later I love it more every time I drive. Don't think I could go back to muscle cars now.
