I went to a local dealer, gave them a list of options and a deposit and they wrote up a "Firm Order Form." I waited five days without hearing from them that the order had been submitted. When I called, they said that they tried to place the order but Mini is currently not providing production positions on 2011's ordered with navigation and rejected the order. The dealer doesn't know when they'll be able to order the car with navigation and can't find out.

Does this make sense? Has anyone else had this experience?

There is a completely new navigation system for 2011. I guess they are still working out bugs or have production startup issues. It's not uncommon that the availability of something new is delayed at the beginning of the model year.

 

I believe MotoringFile mentioned this a few weeks back--you might try a search there for the article. It may be related to the MINI Connected (which I believe comes as part of Nav in 2011).

 

It sounds like it'll be worth the wait.
