new tires Yokohama S.Drive =D

So I am taking the dive and getting rid of my run flats. I am looking at getting the Yokohama S. Drive tires 205 40 17. Does anyone have any recommendations about it? Is there a big difference between 205 45 17 and 205 40 17. My run flats were 40 so I am sticking with that, but is a 45 more quiet?

45 is a little taller. Go with whatever size the OEM tires are unless Yoko doesn't make a 40 series S Drive. I'm running 205/45/17 S Drives and these tires are excellent. Since they are Summer tires, you will need to rotate them on a regular bases. I'm still up in the air on whether I like them better than the Yoko Parada Spec 2 tires, but they still grip awesomely and do pretty good in wet weather.

I believe OEM size is 205/45/17, not 40.

Get the 205/45/17's

I would assume that the ride would be less harsh with the 45s, plus it is oem. Yokohama doesn't sell 205/40/17 in an S.drive anyway.

With the 205/45/17's you would get a better tire selection since it's more common.

Did you look at other options? Every time I get new S.drives, my tire shop always suggests I try out the Hankook Ventus V12's instead. They're a bit cheaper and offer the same performance, so they say. TireRack confirms that too.

I haven't tried them, so I can't describe how similar they are.

I purchased the mini with the 40’s on them, but I just ordered my tires with a 45, $96 a tire. I think that’s good for the Yokohama’s. I hit a pot hole, so my rim is slightly bent. But I didn’t notice a wobble or anything. But my alignment was off enough to make my 50% tires go to the cords.

The tire shop I went to suggested that i get the S drives. they say I will notice the difference big time between the run flats and these. So I went with it. I purchased them off of tire rack. I wasn't going to pay $264 a tire, tire rack had them for $96.

No doubt. The S.drives are great, that's why I'm refusing to switch. Its a good combination of grip and comfort. Road noise it not as much an issue compared to similar tires. As a daily driver, it's the best all-around choice, IMO.

The switch from runflats to performance tires is as much of a difference from switching out the stock sway bar for an upgraded 19mm or bigger sway bar. Performance tires are just more comfortable and grippier, if that's even a word.

Good choice. You'll love the Yokos. Just remember to keep them rotated.

I've got S.Drives on my 2006 Mustang GT and love them for dry weather. They're not the greatest for the wet stuff though. I've got nearly 20k miles on them and they are holding up well. I got them from Discount tire and have them rotated every 7 or 8k miles.

Next time you need tires, give the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo's a shot. Quiet, stick like glue, predictable, excellent wet weather preformance even though they're summer tires, and Car and Driver rated them very highly.

Also, you might consider a 215 size. I'm running 215/40-18's on JCW wheels on my 06 JCW Cab with sport suspension. No rubbing at all, even fully loaded.

How often do you recommend to rotate them?
