Radio Turns On Without Key, Normal With Clubman?
Howdy!!
New to this site and a new mini Clubman owner here!
My son turned on the radio when we got in the car and the key was not in the ignition. Is this normal for a clubman? I am assuming not since the manual states that "radio readyiness" is switched off when the key is removed from the ignition.
Thanks!
Ken

Pressing the Volume button turns on the radio anytime key or no key. But it will automatically shut off after approx 15-30 minutes.
The audio system can seem to act strangely, and differently depending on the other options in the car like Comfort Access, and NAV. I.E. if you have comfort access and do not put the fob in the slot, when you get out of the car the radio will continue to play until its time out period has expired. That time frame can also change depending on the status of the Bluetooth (if installed), If no phone connected to system time out is about 15 minutes if phone is connected via bluetooth then time out is about 30 minutes, yet if a call is active via bluetooth the system will stay active until the call is completed and then the timer will start and shut the system down based on the connectivity status stated previously. But if you hav eth key in the slot and turn the car off and then remove the fob from the slot then the radio will shut down on removal.
So there are many different scenarios, and it will take time to really understand them all.
By the way. The systems in the car are fully computerized and some times seem to have a mind of their own to the general user. The truth is there is a very complex energy management system in the car and it decides what should be on and what should not. So as you notice these things comeback and ask questions if you wish to know more.

Is there a way to override the 15-30 minute radio timeout?
I would like to know if there is a means to override the automatic radio timeout. I noticed, as mentioned in previous post, that the radio will timeout after about 30 minutes, even if the fob is in the ignition switch. There are instances where I would like to listen to a radio show that lasts about 1 h or more.
Also of note is that the time out can be anywhere from 15 minutes to 30 minutes depending on options installed AND if the bluetooth has a connection to a phone. I.E. if there is no phone connected to the bluetooth the timeout will be approx 15 minutes if there is a phone connected to the bluetooth then the time out should be about 30 minutes.
But what you can do it press the volume button in and you will find that the radio comes on and will then stay on for 15 minutes. Again this time frame can not be adjusted.
Another note for you is that this will cause a significant drain on you battery and may cause you to not be able to start the car. The battery is very very small in the MINI.
