The weather is getting hotter and hotter and I am thinking about have my window tinted. Any good shop around Irvine, CA area?

If you want ceramic - which is best at blocking heat we had some good work done by Campbells in Huntington Beach on a Mazda 3, about two years ago. They recently moved to a new location nearby - supossedly to expand. I had the MINI done by XLNT tint in Anahiem about a year ago, which looked great until the light hit it just right. It turned out to be ghosting due to too much heat so they had to do some windows over. Both stores will give you high quotes so you may want to find the best prices from several places and negotiate.

 

I recently read about some MINI owners who had ceramic tinting done on their sunroof glass, and it shattered due to the excessive surface heat. Maybe read up on this type of tint in the forums before you make the choice.

I did the 30% Ceramic on my sunroof without any concern and have had no issues. I can't see how Tempered Glass can be shattered by Tint. I really think one has to consider that side glass and sunroof glass is not that different and there are millions of examples where side glass doesn't shatter due to Tint.

 

The difference is the sunroof takes the brunt of the sun's rays because it's facing straight up. Side glass will take the rays at an angle, and they will tend to be cooler. Think of it in terms of where you are located on Earth. The area between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn takes the brunt of direct sunlight, so that area of the planet is hottest.

I do agree with you on the tempered glass. However, everything has it's breaking point. I'm only reciting what others have mentioned about using ceramic tint on their sunroof. I still have the factory tint on mine.

 

I actually live in Irvine and i got my tint done in santa ana. it was a little over 100 bucks and they did a really good job. only took a couple hours for them to do it. If youre interested i can give you the info. Look at my pics to check the tint out
