MTTS 2010 Atlanta

I'm going to MTTS and had gotten an email that Atlanta had several events going on Friday like a Braves Game and Drive-In from the local groups. But I just noticed on the local clubs page that Mini of Birmingham is having a few things too.
  • August 6, 2010 - 6:30 PM - Drive in Movie at the Dealership, food provided, with games and activities for the whole family. Event starts at 6:30 PM, movie at 8:00 PM.
  • August 7, 2010 - Time TBD - Rally to Atlanta from the dealership!
Just thought I would post them here if anyone was interested and had not heard anything about it like me. As far as MTTS, I am going to go from Atlanta to Indy (can't miss the opporunity to drive on the famous track) and then back to AL because that's the wost week of the year for me to miss work.

Anyone else from AL going?

I'm going and can't wait! I'm going to go to Atlanta Friday and go to the drive in movie event that night. I traded in my '02 Cooper S for a '10 Cooper last month at Bham MINI and they said that they were probably going to host an event but weren't sure. Atlanta had already posted their's and I needed to go ahead and make my reservations. I really wanted to go to Bham's events bc I know all those guys there but I already made reservations for Friday night.
But I'm going to rally all the way to Denver. (skipping the St. Louis stop and going straight to Kansas City to stay with my sister and see Gogol Bordello at Uptown Theatre!) I got lucky enough to be able to take all those vacation days from work! I went on MTTS '06 and only took one leg of the journey, so I wanted to go all out this time!

Great Jessica! I wish I could go all the way this year, maybe next time. This will be my first MTTS and excited to see it all come together! Good that MTTS is heading near family, that helps on hotels! Congratulations on the 2010!! A brand new MINI must be awesome!!

I have reservations in Atlanta for Saturday night and was about to extend them to Friday when I saw the new events. That Atlanta Drive-In sounds awesome and I am sure it will be a ton of MINIs involved! I am really torn between the Turner Field Braves Game and the Birmingham Event. I need to decide soon but can't go wrong either way!

Glad to see some other Alabama people involved. I went to the Dragon event that I really enjoyed but did not see anyone from Alabama. But did find out later that 2 were there, just never crossed paths. Have fun and hopefully will run into you on the route!!

Where are the events being held in Atlanta on the 7th? I go to the Mini site and can't seem to find any details.

Thanks, I had a setting wrong in my browser and it wouldn't load that page. After you wrote this I went back and figured out what was wrong.

And if you want to go to the Braves game you have to RSVP. Details here, just email or call Heather Thompson. I have decided to go there Friday night.

The MOB Drive-in event was terrific! The VIP treatment was way cool, and there was quite a spread. We brought our toddler who made waste with my raffle tickets (didn't find them until next day, in the seat slide), so that's why one MINI left as tickets (including ours ) were being read after the show. I need to come by for service, so I'm glad to be thrilled with our Bham dealership.

Glad to hear they did a good job with the event. My turbocharger came apart on me Monday and Mike the guys got my MINI towed in and rushed the new installation to get me ready for MTTS just in time!! Really grateful they were able to get me going so I didn't miss it.

At the Countryman release party in Atlanta, there was one other car from Alabama. They were from Mobile and headed back from there. I stayed with the Atlanta MINIs group (great guys) through Knoxville and Indy (track was great!). They went back at Indy and now I am in St. Louis. A few Florida cars are all that remains of the South. I have to get back to work so this is my last stop. I really wished I could have went to Denver. This has been a great way to see the country, riding in packs of hundreds of MINIs!!

Hate we had such a poor turnout for Alabama but I have had a blast. MINI throws a great event and I am very glad I went.

I rallied all the way to Denver!! Just got home last night. I was at every event except the St. Louis one. My license plate frame covered up part of "Alabama".. guess I should've taken it off bc everyone kept asking what it said. I saw your MINI at the rise and shine rally in Knoxville, but didn't see anyone near it.
I should've stayed in Alabama and gone to the MOB event bc the Atlanta drive-in was pretty much rained out. Not many people showed up and stayed and we didn't want to watch the movie in the rain.. plus they were showing Marmaduke?!
Kevin, Did you go to the Braves game? I was wondering how that went since the weather was nasty.
Anyways.. We had lots of fun! MINI did a great job with everything, the events were fun and the little surprise and delights along the way were very welcomed after driving so much! Hopefully they'll do it again in two years!

Jessica, that is awesome!!! I don't know how we didn't cross paths. I felt like I talked to about everyone there since I didn't know many people. I was just thinking that the Knoxville rise and shine was the smallest and really can't believe I didn't notice an Alabama car!! I was with the Atlanta MINIs group most of the time after meeting them. At the Countryman preview party in ATL, I didn't notice anyone else except a couple from Mobile speak up at the Alabama roll call. I must have missed it!!

I got tied up at work and got to the Braves game just before 9PM instead of 5:30PM when it was supposed to start. I thought I would have missed everything but they rain delayed it to 9:30PM so it was perfect. They even still had the Glavin number retiring ceremony. I had not been to a Braves game in many years so it was good to see one again. They fed us well and it went well. But it did go to 11 innings, ended close to 1AM Eastern Time. Made for a long day but it was exciting to the end.

Feels so strange to not see any MINI's around now. I just finished making my plans to head back to MOTD this year. In Indy I ran into a lot of friends I made their last year and it was good to see them again.

Definately post some pics. Would love to see what I missed. I have mine up here. I am working on a video I made of the trip but still have a lot of editing to do!

I got to the Knoxville rally kind of late and they had me backed into a power pole pretty much.. couldn't even open the boot. Did you see that hobo guy waving us on as we left the parking lot? That was hilarious

Sounds awesome about the braves game! I can't believe it lasted so long! I was so drained from driving so much I don't think I could've stayed up that long haha. Plus we camped the whole way so we had to wake up pretty early to get the car packed.

It does feel weird without MINIs everywhere! I used to never see them in Alabama. I've seen more around since they opened the Bham dealership, but the few MINIs that I see around Montgomery never wave back to me! I still wave every time tho. I guess the MINI owners around here aren't as friendly. Probably why not many Alabama MINIs were at the rally.

I checked out your photos on flickr and added you as a contact. I'm going to upload my photos tonight! Oh, and I really want to go to MOTD next year! I haven't been yet so hopefully I can get off work and go.

I did see him. I had a video camera rigged to my passenger headrest since I was going solo and he came over and said "that's they way to do it right there!!" He was funny.

I rarely see any up here in rural Alabama and the few never wave back either. I have never ran into someone who owned one here they are so rare, just in passing occasionally.

I loved the Dragon. Being new to MINIs last year, I met a ton of people and everyone was very nice. And everyone waves enthusiastically when you pass. Its an amazing event!! I also like all the other events they have going on like zip lines, boat rides, kayaking, etc. I can't wait to go back again. Well worth taking the time to go. They also have plenty of camping right near the lodge.

I'll be looking for your pictures on flickr.
