R56 yet another dash icon question....
It is telling you that it is due for inspection. In Pennsylvania, we have annual state inspection. Last year I had my mini inspected at the dealer in June when the inspection was due. The dealer did not reset the mini's computer, and I got this icon on July 1. I called the dealer and they told me that the date needed to be updated and this was telling me that the state inspection was overdue.
I don't know if you have state inspection in Texas. If you don't, you can go into the computer and change the date to 2050 and you may never see the icon again(or if you keep the mini long enough, maybe you will).

thanks!
so....if I just ignore it, how do I know when its time for the next oil change? because now...just the red SERVICE message comes on at startup...no miles.

bagwell, I am on page 4 of the Service and Warranty Information book that came with my mini. Hopefully you have one to refer to. The icon you have a picture of is in the book and the description is "State-required safety inspection". This icon does not indicate Service information.
The page has two notes below the pictures and description. They are:
Note 1: The display icons for the state-required safety and emissions may be deactivated by your Mini dealer if the state in which your Mini is registered does not require them.
Note 2: The display icons appear in the order of the next service that is due.
I believe Note 1 is self explanatory. However, if you think about Note 2, your inspection is now overdue so you will not get your Service message for the next oil change until you get the State Inspection icon resolved.
If you look around this site, there is a description on how to change the date for state inspection. If I remember correctly, You need to simultaneously press both stalks in the tach and hold them, but I don't remember exactly. The posts that describe how to reset the brakes icons will take you to the right place I believe.
