HK Intermittent crackle in all speakers

I have a 03 MCS with factory HK system. I have strange problem with intermittent crackling in any/all speakers. It will sound fine then randomly a crackle/static sound will appear and last for 30-sec to 2 minutes. If the head unit is turned off during this, the sound will still persist. The dealer suggested it was the HK amp. Any ideas, suggestions for fix?

Sounds like the amp. There has been some discussion of trying to fix it, but replacement is the path of least resistance.

defo the amp on its way out.. mine did this and lasted a few months until i came to start it one day and there was no sound at all.. and this is still how it is..mini amplifiers are soooo expensive.. so ive been searching for other ways to use the speakers and wiring already in the car and use an aftermarket amp.. it seems some have done this.. and i need to try it as im missing not having music in the car.!!!

HK speakers crackle when head unit is off..

bumping this thread. I have been experiencing this problem lately. although mainly from the passenger side tweeter and the rear passenger side speaker. lately its gotten really bad (and annoying). I tried replacing the rear passenger speaker but the sound persists so its not the speaker... how do i fix this?? the oem amp is very expensive.... anybody have any luck fixing on the cheap?

Dry joints in the amp. Check the connector for water ingress and corrosion, then you are looking for dry PCB joints.

He's talking about the power and output wiring connectors associated with the amp. PCB refers to the white plastic wiring connectors.
He's got a point. It would be worth checking out before trying to replace the whole kit.
