I've got a stock ipod interface in the glove compartment of my 06 Cooper S. My 2nd gen 20GB iPod has always worked fine and kept charged in there. Now I have a new iPhone and want to use the interface to charge my phone on the go. When I plug it in, I'm able to play music, but a message on the phone says "This is not a valid iPhone Accessory" and that charging is not supported.

Any way to update my stock interface to support the new iPhone4?

Even with the Scosche you will still get the message but at least it will charge. This is an old issue that started with the IPhone 3G. They changed the pin that actually charges the phone so older accessories will not charge. Easy fix though...

 

Good to know the iPhone 4 will still work.

 

I haven't tried it myself, but it should work as that really hasn't changed.

 

Is this all that will happen with a nano video 5th gen? I used to have an r56 and interface worked fine but I now have an r53 with nav and am looking to get ipod interface but eveywhere says either dice or stock connector are not compatible with 5th gen nano. But if its only that it won't charge I don't really care...?

 

Yep, it just won't charge but it will likely play. It you get the Scosche adapter it will charge as well.
