Cover or not to cover

I have the threads here about covering or not covering while the car is stored outside. The bottom line was not to cover but to keep it clean and a layer of protection. I have a MC40 and have a bunch of decals that will fade under our near constant sun we have here in Southern California.
What do you guys suggest?

I religiously cover my miatas - the MINI gets the garage. While I've got a cover for the MINI, the back end gets dirty SO quickly, I usually don't bother covering it.

If you keep a layer of wax on your car (decals included), they will not fade. Wax (a good one, anyway) will provide proper UV protection.

You can cover it, if you choose...but you have to clean the car before covering it, or else you'll just impart swirls and scratches.

Thanks, guys, guess I will put a good layer or two on the decals and then cover it.

This is good guidance. The problem, as stated, is that the back of these cars get dusty/gritty so quickly, that you're likely to just be dragging that stuff across the paint as you cover and uncover the car, unless you dust and QD first... and even that will induce swirls with road grit on the car.

I have a heavy cover I use at the airport when I can't find a good space - it's heavy enough to reduce the impact of door dings, etc. And I know that when I use it, I'm making more polishing work for later... but just another one of life's trade-offs.

I understand the trade off, but the alternative might be worst. I will take polishing over increasing the deterioration of the interior and exterior. Up until this point the car has always been in a parking structure at home and at work. Also being covered will attract less of the criminal element and worse yet is bird bombs that I might not see for days later.
How much did you pay for your cover? I've been looking on line at ebay and amazon and they are pretty pricey.

i paid for gated and garaged community when i lived in LA. i recommend this as the best solution.

otherwise just keep a good coat of Hydro on it and hope for the best.

I have an Evolution all-weather cover I bought from Griot's...I believe it ran $150-200.

To spend a little more for a good cover is worth it in my opinion
