max performance summer tires

i know there are tons of threads about tires but id like to see what you all have to say for me. i will be going to a 215/40r17 tires. im looking for a max performance summer tire that has awesome grip in the dry and wet, these tires wont see winter or colder conditions, i would like to stay under $150 a tire if possible. i drive rather aggressively and want a tire that is going to hold to the street well. any recommendations? i was looking at bfgoodrich g-forces and dunlop z1 star spec anyone run these tires?

Look at what the local AutoX junkies run in your area. The favorite around here is the Dunlop star spec.

More Tire options with a 45 series, a slightly better ride, a bit more rim protection and speedo is a tad more accurate

Yep, what NightFlyR said. I just switched my tires and I was going to go with 215/40/17's, but went with 215/45/17's instead. They look much better in the wheel well (if you're not lowering the car), they handle very well and the ride is a bit more comfortable over the 40's.

I have had my car for just 2 years and have used at least 5 sets of tires.
From the rock hard Dunlop DSSRT that I hated cause of the noise, to the Avon 550Tech which were very good riding and quite. I have also had on the Kumho Ast which I thought were pretty bad in the wet. Currently I have a set of nexen on the car, I did not purchase these they came with a set of wheels i picked up. they are VERY soft, great ride, but do nothing for performance. Winter tires are general artics, they have been great for 2 winters of bad snow, never got stuck. I am ordering a set of the General UHP, I have had these before on another car and found them to be pretty good, plus they are in the size i want this time 215 50 16. Should have them on Tuesday for the ride down to the dragon if all works out

215/40-17 for perfomance driving

Or auto-x or midnight mountain carving I prefer to run 215/40-17. The advantage with a 40 series is better steering response. The other important advantage is better gearing, with the smaller overall radius of tire and that is good for acceleration. And my own personal reasons is because for driving hard I like lower air pressures, the 45 seems more squirmy at lower air pressures than 45. But that's just me, many folks like 215/45-17 for it's softer comfort, but coming from oem Run Flats even 215/40 Non-Run Flats seem more comfortable.

In 215/40-17 there is the Dunlop Star Spec for $127 and the Yoko AD08 for $158 at Tire Rack. The Star Spec seems to be the NAM favorite.
