Gas Prices on the Dragon

Okay. so this is my first trip down to MOTD [although it looks like it might be MINI Almost on the Dragon, with the rick slide ].

Anyway, are gas prices generally higher on, and around the Dragon as compared to average prices in the area. Thankss.

Gas is pretty expensive [and scarce] once you get past the Knoxville area and into the sticks. In the past, we'd fill up at the Shell in Maryville, but that's not an option this year. I guess we'll just have to see what's there this year, since this will be uncharted territory for most of us. The gas station at Fontana is EXPENSIVE, and the one at Deals Gap caters to bikers, although this year he will probably be real happy just to get some business.

There are a couple in Robbinsville, and 5-6 in Bryson City that I can think of. Barry has been down there recently, maybe he paid attention to prices?

Welshman,

I see you are from Piqua. Cincinnati here. Are you going this year? if so how were planning to go down. I was planning on 75 south to East 40. Then get off at Sevierville to Cherekee and come in from the east.

This will be my eighth trip. I've been going down since the Fall of '04. I do the Cigar Salon at MOTD.

I've never driven down the way you are planning. However, ANY way is gonna be a new experience this year for most of us. I was thinking of driving thru Knoxville and down to Sweetwater, where I'd head East thru Tellico Plains and the Cherohala Skyway to Robbinsville and on to Fontana.

Our usual stop is where I've always stayed in the past - the Tuskeegee motel/Citgo station. They have 93, they take credit cards, and they're only about 12 spirited minutes away from the Fontana station, but much cheaper . The owners are awesome people, and because I won't be staying there this year, I'll be filling up there as much as I can to give them some much-needed business. I'll probably clear out their gift shop as usual too

Most Citgos around here still sell 100% gasoline. One in Knoxville on Sutherland Avenue right off interstate downtown, one out on Alcoa Highway by the flea market and a few in the Maryville/Alcoa area. Best way from north might be Alcoa Highway to Townsend, then up Little River Road to Gatlinburg, over to Cherokee then down to Bryson City/Fontana.
Oh, there is a Citgo in LaFollette about 2-1/2 miles off I-75
Rock slides here are a way of life this spring. Every mountain highway has succumbed at one time or another to a greater or lesser degree.

Last year we got off with about $2.50/gal premium. Two years ago we were over $4.00! So $3.00+ sounds like a pretty good deal, I guess. Doesn't matter anyway, ya gotta pay what ya gotta pay. The fun outbalances all of it!
