What Color to Paint Brake Caliper?
I have an 03 electric blue S. What color do you think i should paint the brake caliper. Also i was thinking about painting my rims black....do you think they would look better or would you keep them the way they are? Thanks!
This is an old picture....i now have 20% tint all around

Post some photos of your car and wheels.
I've seen one blue MINI with blue brake calipers. That looked good. Yellow, or red will also look good with blue. If you want to look traditional, go with red. It is the most popular brake caliper color.

hmmm interesting....yeah i dont know if a different blue would look right...i posted a pic
I've seen it, looks fine. It is dark back there, so even the same color will look different. I'm constantly surpised by how timid Americans are with color. If the color and value (dark/light) of the blue are different than the body, it should look good.
I had these installed, and like them very much. Paint will not last as long, and I really like the reduced brake dust on my wheels. They come in a bunch of colors to, and a super easy install.

I think silver would look the best. They would stand out! Under the thread "wide wheel flares" page 8, there is an Oxygen blue with what looks like Oxygen blue calipers. I thought that this looked great!

How much do they weigh?
You could paint calipers more than five times for the cost of the covers.

Powder coated aluminum, they were very light. You can install them once and not think about it again. You missed a deal if you missed them at AMVIV.
First of all, the caliper covers are a bad idea IMHO. Just don't. No offense to those who like them; they just scream "fake". In fact painting the stock calipers is also fake.
Your measly stock calipers will never look like nice, expensive Brembo or StopTech calipers, just because you painted them red.
By painting them, you're only drawing more attention to your relatively ugly and pedestrian stock calipers. Sure, they stop the car adequately enough, but they're rough, bumpy, arguably pathetically small-looking calipers. If anything, paint them silver, or better yet, black, to make them disappear even more.
If you really want a nice hit of color behind your spokes, the only way to go is an aftermarket big brake kit upgrade. Anything less loudly announces to all gearheads that you're a poser who doesn't have the money and/or expertise to install a big brake kit. Harsh words, I know, but someone has to stop the painted caliper trend madness! It's gone too far. I know, you want to you-ify your MINI, and I applaud that, believe me, but some things are just inherently wrong to do to a car.
Again, this is all just one man's two cents. I know I'll get bashed for being so brutally honest, but some things are just in bad taste!

+1 +1 +1....

I think the best bling behind a wheel is a BBK but not everyone can afford or needs a BBK.
Painting the brake calipers is a great idea but color definitely draws attention to how ugly our factory calipers really are.
I like the idea of black factory calipers and rotor hats best.
I have the Wilwood BBK in red on the front of my car and painted my rear factory calipers red to match until I can upgrade to a rear Wilwood BBK later this year.
But in the end, it only matters what you like on your car.

I remember someone had orange calipers with black ultraleggras on a laser blue R56 that looked good. Personally, I'd go with something different (not red) it I was painting the OEM calipers.

No, your words weren't harsh, they were foolish.
No, you weren't applauding, you were condescending.
No, you weren't being honest, you were just being in bad taste.
I'll take my warning, which I'm sure is coming, but this sort of tripe from the likes of these will contribute to the exodus of members.
Wow, never knew the color & style of brake calipers was so very important.
Everyone has different tastes & heck if one feels the need to beautify brakes, well have at it & enjoy whatever flavor you like.
Caliper covers hold the heat in the brake, not the best thing for ones brakes.

I was thinking black for my car. I don't like the way stock calipers age and black is very easy to keep clean. I have done red before, but it does sort of draw attention to a) your brakes are stock b) your brakes are dirty c) you missed a spot when you were painting. A BBK would be nice, but so would patio furniture and an ipad.
Silver is my fav for calipers... I like to see mechanical bits thru the wheels, but it still look stock at the same time... especially if the car has large open spoke wheels... here's the results on my previous car: (hand brushed on Tremclad metal rust paint)

And yes they hold up well, especially this "aluminum" colour that Tremclad offers... the heat really bakes it on nice, and it took 3 years of SW Ontario winters to start showing some rust again.
