my 06 S has R97 flame spoke wheels and says checkmate on the door sills.

was there somethig special to a checkmate or was it just some appearance options?

 

Mostly appearance, though it does come with the sport package. The dead give away is the 2 toned space blue interior.

 

oh then i think i have a checkmate , should that be in the vin?

i have two tone blue seats and steering wheel, and blue plastic dash pieces.

 

The VIN will tell you for sure (just call your closest dealer, or MINI USA) - but if you have the interior and the sills, that sells me.

Checker graphics on the fenders? U-stripe? Those were also part of the package, although they are easier for anyone to have made by an aftermarket graphics guy.

 

I have no checks and the usual two striped on the hood

 

You have a checkmate if it has the interior and steering wheel, someone might just removed the other stuff, also a checkmate logo on the rear glass by the doors

 

I have a buddy who lives in Albuquerque with a checkmate edition. If you have any questions of him, I can give you his e-mail. He is also trying to sell his just f.y.i.

 

was this logo just a sticker that could easily be pealed off?

 

I would say the sills make it for me. They are supposed to be a PITA to do yourself and EXPENSIVE to have done at the dealer.

 

fwiw the checkmate package is just a option that included sports package along with the 'flames' wheels and a u-bonnet stripe with sills, different color interior and steering wheel, and a badge on the rear windows along with the fender checkers and checkmate logo

i highly doubt anyone would go out of their way to create a 'checkmate' replica, since the checkmate package is just like the 'sidewalk' package on the convertible

you'd be pretty safe assuming you have a checkmate

 

I also own a 06 jcw checkmate car like said by others run the vin at the dealer they will tell you.
