spare tires

I'm new to the S world. I've been driving a Cooper for a few years now and just recently aquired a 2004 S. I had no idea they had no spare tire. Am I overly concerned about this? My car does have runflats on it, but for some reason that doesn't give me a totally comfortable feeling. I can't see carrying a spare in what minimal space there is. I've been reading about all these people giving up their runflats and I wonder what the solution is. What are you people doing for piece of mind with regular tires?

There a several thousands threads on this...do a quick search!!
But to humor you...most of us carry a plug kit, 12v air compressor...some carry a slime kit and compressor, or a can of fix-a-flat. Unless you get a complete blowout, or sidewall dammage, all should be fine. That and a AAA membership if the worst happens!!

I carry a full size 16 inch spare behind the rear seats, fits fine but I loose the parcel shelf, but it gives me peace of mind on long trips

If you want an official spare, check this site: http://new.minimania.com/web/Item/NMW7610/InvDetail.cfm
I'm getting one for my clubman.
Being as you have no spare, you may not have a jack or lug wrench. The following site can provide those items. Index numbers 27,28 and 29 seem to be what you may need.

I hope that info helps.

My MCS came with jack and lug wrench - but I hear that not all do.

I've run 69,000 miles with no spare and no flats. I carry plug kits and a compressor.

I just bought an OEM spare from a cooper to carry on long trips.

check your local junkyards at www.car-part.com before you buy a new one... mine was $75, never used. Exactly like the $300 MiniMania one.

Welcome to NAM. The search engine here is not a very good one.

I felt the same way when I bought my 06 MCS. The tires have been switched to non-runflats & I like the ride much more. For a spare I got a donut from a Cooper & stow it standing up on the floor behind the passenger seat with it jammed back against the tire to hold it in place. It is very secure there, but I've not crash tested this setup. IMO standing a full sized tire up in the boot is not a great idea. That is a lot of weight to come flying forward if there is an accident.

Next thing, you're gonna tell me that my spare setup isn't safe.

Flat tire city...

Well, I guess I live in "FLAT TIRE CITY"... Yes, I live in downtown Toronto, and I have at least once a year a flat tire episode. Honestly, not with my MINI but with the minivan. 2 years ago I had 3 flat tires in 8 months all thanks to construction nails in the tread (didn't you know that this here is new condominium heaven??)...
I also had flat tire last fall on my MINI when switching to winter set (rim leak...).
So, after all of that and issue of having a no space for spare in MCS, I decided to go with Clubman S and keep my MINI donut from my R50. It fits in the rear floor after you take out all the "junk" that came with it... AND I do love the "wagon" style...
Oh, yes. I drive on non run flats. But that is another post

i have a can of fix a flat in the car (anyone know how long before these "expire"?). that's basically it. i bought 2pcs of 15" holies from Japan a few months ago, my friend bought 1 & i kept the other as a spare, haven't gotten around to buying a tire for it though but if i do carry it in the MINI, i'd keep it in the boot like NightFlyR
