Advice on the sale of our 2003 S (sold!! :( )

I think the time has come to sell our Mini Cooper S 53k miles right now.

It has lots of little extras aero kit, bbs rims, fog lights and some other things that make it really stand out from your standard mini.

I think we can fetch a decent price for it but want advice on how i should handle the squeaking clutch out of first only issue.

We have had no major issues with the car, other than the squeaking out of first which does not happen every time I am worried how this will affect resale. I have no problems being honest and would not ever do otherwise. I figure to let them know about the issue and how its occured with other mini's and does not require a clutch replacement.

Anything else?

Last time we sold a used car it was to family and the engine blew 2 years later (darn chrysler) that was not fun.

Thanks and we are not looking forward to moving on without this mini but new family addition just does not make it very practical.

A part of me says the $10k+ we will get for the car is not worth giving it up but its time

Has the cause of the squeak been determined by your mechanic? If not, that may be the way to go. If it turns out to be nothing serious, you'll have something in writing to show any prospective buyers. Good luck with the sale. What are you replacing the MINI with?

BTW, you really shouldn't feel to badly about an engine blowing two years after you sold the car. It was a Chrysler, after all.

if its the notorious squeek then it should not effect your sale. it is a pretty widely known trait of earlier BMW MINIs

EDIT:

Looks like it sold easier than we thought $13k. We had a friend borrow it when we were out of town once and his dad loved it. When i mentioned it was now up for sale he said his dad was interested. I told him about the little issue and let them borrow the car for a day or 2 to really see if he wanted to take it on. Well its sold and we are letting it go today. It was my wifes car but i sure enjoyed it and taking it harder than the wife. But with the new kid came a need to upgrade (highlander hybrid). Maybe one day we will be back!

cool, congrats with the sale. selling cars is always bitter sweet - relief to not worry about it anymore and a chance to move on versus missing what you had.

hope you come back to the MINI fold in the future and good luck in the meantime.

Not sure about other states, but here in Mass, relief doesn't come until 30 days after you sell it given the Lemon Law.
