Smog Check - Wont fit

Well as some of you know I am new to Colorado by way of Cal.
I went to take the Mini in for a smog check in Jefferson Co. so I can change the registration. And Guess what, they told me thay could not check it because it would not fit on the dyno???
Has anyone else run itno this issue and or have a way to get it checked short of me having to remove the front clip?
Steve

I never had that problem. Ask for someone else, perhaps someone who is not wearing a flat bill hat.

There are some bars that slide out to "hold / guide" the vehicle on the rollers and they hit the front spoiler and side skirts.

You can ask them to do a tail-pipe check, try the station in Broomfield, they seem to be a little more flexible.

Go to another station, The first time that I went in for emmissions in my mini. The gal insisted that minis are all-wheel drive and would not fit on the all-wheel drive dyno. You might have gotten the same person...

She Passed
I removed the front mud gaurds and the lower bolts to the front bumper allowing it to swing forward enough to clear the bars on the Dyno. It was funny to watch them try to find and see the CATs and O2 sensors
When they pulled her on the Dyno i laughed when the Boss insisted on running the test himself.

Did they actually look at the cats? Have heard of some places using mirrors to look at them

No smog checks here......

Dyno smog checks

are to look at tail pipe emissions when the engine is under load. someone figured out that looking at free-wheeling engines didn't really tell anyone anything about how the engine was doing in real world driving situations. It's not much of a load, but it's more representitive of actual use.

My lowered Mini (not lowered much) did just fine at one of the local smog shops without doing anything.

What was funny was that one of the books about what equipment was on the car was a bit in error. The guy asked "where's your airpump?" and I said "This car doesn't have one and never did." He checked another reference and saw that all was good.

And the visual inspection varies from test station to test station. I have a HAI on my car... Guy said he didn't car about anything upstream of the throttle body...

Well yes they did use a mirror to look and verify that there was a Cat in place and that there were 2 o2 sensors. They were having a hard time seeing undernieth so they tried opening the hood, but that didnt help
So that means that they would not have even looked under the bonnet if they wernt looking for the o2 sensor

According to Colorado Clean Air guidelines, MINI Cooper S is exempt from the I240 test. Only requires a tailpipe test.
