MINI Engine Rattling Humming Loudly- New Part

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post. I am a new MC owner (4 Months). I have already had 2 issues. First, My water pump needed to be replaced already after 4500 miles. Secondly, there is a loud humming/rattling noise that just started from my engine when excellerating. Brought car to MINI, they said sound could be repaired by a New Part that has not yet been made in Germany. They were very vague about the cause of the noise and could not tell me when this part would be produced or what it would help(sounds fishy). They mentioned sometime next fall it would be in. Also, they said the engine is not being damaged.

Is anyone familiar with this Humming Rattling sound and does anyone know anything about this "New Part"?

I love the MC and look forward to sharing insight and solutions with all in the futere!

Gotta hand it to the dealer for his creativity. New Part not yet made in Germany to be ready next fall... good one!

Could be referring to the 4th and "final" fix of the timing chain/tensioner....until the 5th iteration comes around. I would call BS and make them explain to you the part. If it is the timing chain and tensioner, then I would ask them to install the current fix out there, it might do the trick.

Motoring File is reporting a final fix for the cold start chatter that involves a slightly longer timing chain.

That's probably what these guys are referring too, though they did a pretty poor job of communicating it.

I read the MF article, and what I don't understand, is how is lengthening the timing chain solving the problem, when what determined replacement with the current problem (at least one of the factors) was when your timing chain was stretched out to beyond spec? Sounds like another Rube Goldberg fix to me.

In the meantime...

Rattle

Thanks for the great feedback. Dealer explained that it was a problem with a connection to the crank shaft and pully that is causing the problem, but insure me it is harmless and I should keep driving as usual and they will contact me when the part arrives. They can be very creative at explaining.

Until then, yes I guess Rattle and Hum!!
