Looking to install sub in mini cooper
Hi everyone, im looking to install a sub in my 09 mini cooper. Can i install it to the stock head unit? Also im looking a a 12inch kicker l7 with kicker amp is that too big? what does everyone think
I am not sure what you mean by "to the stock head unit"?
But yes you can install a 12" sub in a mini cooper. I have a 12" sub in my 09 cooper with a 1 cu ft box. I am running a JL Cleansweep between the factory HU and my amplifier...but you could use any amp that has speaker level inputs to do the same thing.

^^So Would It Be Possible To Do A Quick Write Up And How You Did The Install ??? I Really Dont Want To Tear Up My Dash To Install This Thingy

I ran speaker wire to the back from the x9931 molex plug that is up front behind the latch that pops the hood. This gives you the speaker level inputs required. I only ran 2 channel back because thats all my system needed.
If you are doing a sub and amp i would suggest buying an amp that has speaker level inputs...the cleansweep is not needed on the mini cooper. I only bought one because i found it on ebay for cheap. Plus it gave me a remote turn on, which on the cooper is a bit tricky.
After you have the speaker level inputs you will need power / ground./ and remote.
Power can be picked up in two places...one from the battery and it is fairly easy to get a wire straight back from the battery....pictures are easy to find here by searching, I decided not to do that, and just taped into a very large wire that is just on the inside of the passenger side fuse box. That wire is a direct lead from the battery and only about 2 feet away, so there will be NO power drop doign it this way. But its up to you.
My ground is run in the trunk...i drilled into the frame and scraped away all the pain and then sealed it up....no noise at all so i am confident in that ground.
Remote....it can be taken from the lighter that is in the boot....problem there is it stays "live" for about 15 minutes after you turn the car off...and it becomes live again when you open the hatch. So that is not an ideal remote turn on...and being too lazy to find a better one, i bought the cleansweep
Are you thinking about doing anythign with the front or rear speakers? Or is this a simple sub install only?

Its good to have "respect" for your mini and not want to damage it...but you are not going to be cutting any wires here...so you should not be affecting anything in your mini.
There are dozens of threads here outlining subwoofer installs. There are no fuseboxes anywhere near where the speaker molex plug is. Its relatively straight forward...If you find the "speaker swap" thread...it goes into great detail about this.
I would suggest maybe finding a new shop...print out the pages that pertain to the x9931 and sit down with the shop and discuss your expectations. Review the pages...and see what they think they can do for you without messing up your mini.
