Mods, when is this going to stop!

Another thread gone to heck. The SOW thread shutdown, just like some people wanted. When are you mods going to keep vendors in check going into others threads and provoking bad behavior? This thread had good beginnings, yes maybe the facts were not perfect but jeez and then was torn apart by other vendors, sad so sad. Hmmm.....and you wonder why NAM is losing members to another site

I wouldn't hold your breath, Jim.

This site is the only audience that Jan has left, so i'm guessing he pays extra to stay on here. You won't be able to do anything about that.

After I was suspended for a week for my signature violation, I just stopped posting and helping people on here. It's not worth it.

I don't even bother with this site anymore, other than the MidCal forum. If the mods want to know why - blatant disrespect by the people we all know about. Flagging threads, e-mailing IB, PM'ing moderator for thoughts......futile.

Sounds like a bunch of whining to me. Where was the Jimini uproar when the exact same thing happened to my 277hp thread? The "other" camp came in and it was locked? In all honesty I don't care, its the hypocrisy of it all that is the amazing part. If you can dish it out be man enough to take it.

The people in the SOW thread where warned, and the thread cleaned up after the first round of arguing. Then parties on BOTH sides continued to violate the site guidelines, at which point people on BOTH sides, received infractions.

You want to get into a heated conversation and debate facts (accurate or not), great; you want to show support for a particular, person, product team, modification, and so on, wonderful. The problem is that what is often the minority of users, fail to be able to do so while being respectful of others, both that they are conversing with, and that are reading the thread as spectators. And attempts are often made to salvage such threads, as was the case here.

As moderators, we really would like to see members make use of their judgment and take the "high road" and discuss matters as adults; and steer the conversations toward topical not personal vendetta discussions. I am also in favor of individuals using the ignore feature as needed.

Unfortunately, even after all that opportunity to self moderate some people do slip up from time to time, and then then there is usually a warning depending largely upon the severity of the matter. And then when individuals continue to cause problems within threads there reaches a point when infractions must be handed out and if there are many posts and a thread has lost a flow of content it may or may not be closed. Every thread is different so treatment of the situation varies from time to time; but efforts are generally made to salvage threads when it is reasonable to do so, also there is nothing saying that another thread on a similar topic can't be started and kept on track (no pun intended) by the users.

I'd like to see those causing trouble change their ways, however there are a few individuals that are racking up the infraction points rapidly, which if the points add up to 150 points the user receives an suspension (a time out of 7 days to reflect upon their behavior to make better choices in the future) the 200 allotted, the user does get banned. And vendors are subject to additional consequences, including 3 and/or 7 day suspensions depending upon how many times they've caused issues.

There used to be several threads that suffered this type of demise per week, now it's only a few per month, so it seems to some degree people are starting to make wiser decisions and talk more about the things MINI that interest them and less about their personal differences.

If you've got something constructive that you think could be done to help curtail such behavior, I'd be interested to hear it.

Thing is that thread had nothing to do with me, it's just that if you actually looked there is only one vendor that does this......hmm...who could that be? There are NO other vendors that do this, none!

Ah, that's not true at all.

And just because you can't see the discipline that happens on the back side doesn't mean nothing is happening.

Maybe here on NAM, but there are vendors in other Mini forums that race. They might actually be here if it wasn't for NAM self imploding. I mean I log in this morning and the first thing I see is a Scangauge add from AutoZone, what the heck? I know there are actually Mini vendors here that are trying to sell them?

I'm all for supporting the Mini vendors but I do own more than one make of car/truck and the Scangauge isn't a Mini only product, so I was happy to find out they were available just down the street for the best price I've seen!

Tire Rack is also a "national" level vendor. I don't see the difference between them and AutoZone.

Again, if you have constructive criticism, it is more than welcome. Whining about things that you just don't like is not really constructive.

Are you serious? When has someone from AutoZone came into a thread and helped someone? Are you saying my opinion doesn't count here? Wow this place gets worse every day And BTW this thread is located in "Site Feedback", so you can write here as long as the feedback is good, if you have bad feedback your SOL? This is America remember, free speech and all

you have GOT TO BE KIDDING

this is the largest MINI site in the world .........imploding?

they aren't here because they are too cheap to advertise here

If you honestly think vendors are in business to sell scan gauges and stay afloat you are massively mistaken.

Yes AutoZone is a vendor, and like many other vendors (tonight I've seen about 3 dozen banners for vendors listed in our directory and 1 for autozone) in the automotive and MINI community they pay for the advertising space here which pays for the site to continue to function, which keeps this website free of charge. This website provides a meeting place for over 74k MINI enthusiasts to learn, discuss, network, collaborate and most importantly better enjoy their cars.

Was AutoZone getting into the SOW thread and causing trouble?

If you whine nothing will change, if you offer something constructive, there's a chance you might see something improve.
If you've got something constructive that you think could be done... I'd be interested to hear it.
But you're yet to offer any of that and just seem to be wanting to continually change the topic, to provide an avenue to simply have a complaint. Anyone can say life's not perfect, but it accomplishes nothing unless you're willing to do something about it. Which is unfortunate, because it does nothing to help further the community here. The Moderators and Admins here would like to help improve things, as the community continually changes and I think it's best to make sure the tone of the site best reflects the tone of the community and the people that enjoy MINIs.

Oh and BTW this is a privately owned website on the internet, so your "free speech" ought be kept within the Site Guidelines.

Silly me, never thought AutoZone would be the downfall of NAM... Honestly, with the buy out of Nam by IB, things have changed a bit, some bad, some good, but it is a business and as long as BMW continues the Mini brand I feel NAM will live on long after you and I have moved on....

Friendly, spirited competition and lively but civil debates is as good for us as it is for NAM.. A few of us got smacked on the hand, no reason to run around screaming that the sky is falling, so why don't we just get on with it.

So concerning your first remark, No AutoZone was not causing trouble in that thread, that same vendors is causing trouble in this thread.

Concerning your next point, how can I be changing the subject when I STARTED the thread? And again, the location of this thread is in "site Feedback", are you saying only GOOD feedback is allowed?

Concerning your next point, yavul commandant

I was a lurker for a while when I first purchased my r53, then finally signed up an account, and eventually PAID for an Alliance Membership. Mostly to support this Forum. Didn't have to but I felt it was partly my duty as a user of data gleaned from all the reading done here every day. No different than subscribing to Auto Week Magazine.

Additionally, I do buy and sell stuff on the marketplace. Again, in an effort to continue the support of somthing I use, I PURCHASED an Alliance Membership to help offset the costs of server maintenance.

Maybe, just maybe if 60 percent of the users of this forum doled out a few dollars in an exchange of energy for what they use everyday, Vendors would not have a leg up ?

My 2 cents.

Now can we get on with talking about MINI's ?
