JL Audio Subs

What do you guys think about the JL Audio Mini Stealthbox with the 2 8" W7's?

Well the box houses W7's and I like the rack. I would probably go on to cover the rack with some cloth grill to match the surrounding material to hide them more.

I built a fiberglass box that fits very snuggly in the hole there and is flush. I also have a pooch cover that fits over the entire back area with the seats down. I never use them so my dog has a big playpen back there.

What are you going to go with up front? and where are you thinking of placing the amps? Mine are under the seats.

I like the W7's and it's been a while since I've been in the car audio market, but they were quite pricey. I found the W3 V2's to be a lot of bang for the buck. I also had W6's in my 02 Camaro back in the trunk cubby holes that shook the house. I like JL Audio and my under the seat amps are both JL Audio.

JBL makes some great amps and speakers as well!

oh, im worried installing a sound system would void my warranty, and i think there's space for amps in between both subwoofers with that stealthbox

Its the box that the sales manager for JL uses, so it must be good, right?

I think by the time you put 2 amps in it you are over $1500 for the box/subs and amps. A bit pricey for what you get...but its a nice set up.

You can probably get a custom fiberglass/mdf setup for less. I paid $1250 installed for a single 10" and amp under my passenger seat. My box cost me roughly $500 while everything else was $225 or so each - sub, amp, install

This box will KNOCK your socks off with the right amp. Those should take at least a 500/1 if not a 1000/1 amp to power them. Their stealth boxes are amazing, crisp, clean and loud and their w7's are top notch! You would not be disappointed in the least.

JL Audio is no doubt a kick *** manufacturer, but as far as fit goes, i don't think they did as good of a design job as the 1st gen. version:

The R56 version may be high in performance, but hardly feels "stealth":

In the end, it's just another huge box that compromises your hatch space. For the practical ones out there, i wouldn't want to put any groceries or dirty/wet sports equipment on that rack, covered or not. Those racks also don't look too golfer friendly. Either way you put your bag, you could either get dirt in the speakers from the butt end or a club could fall in between those racks while motoring. Genius.

Flush mount with the amp(s) under the rear seats is the way to go, and i've seen some great ones in the forums.

Charlie, care to share some pictures of your custom fiberglass setup?

Yeah, I dont see that being "stealth" at all. It huge and obnoxios.

JL subs are awesome, but wouldnt that be over kill in a Mini? I mean my H/K bumps enough to make the mirrors rattle, I'm adding a kicker 10 that should be overkill as well. (I'm sure eventually removing the H/K all together. )

I think for $1200 I could build one hell of a nice system, inlcuding head unit, all new door and component speakers, amps, dynamat. Then again I would be installing it myself and save quite a bit.

Even that other custom box for the Mini at $360 is too rich for my blood on "justabox", but it looks more stealth than that does.

I think if you bought it, and installed it would you be happy...most definately. Do I think you could save some coin and not get the W7's or stealthbox? most definatly.

i just found this enclosure on Ebay for the R56, for essentially $400 shipped (new). What does everyone think about it? Next to installing it under the rear boot, this has been the next best install location that I've found. is the price reasonable?

thanks in advance.

I think that's a TON of money to pay for that box....it doesn't look all that custom, and i doubt you would be pleased with it.

I just ordered that box I've heard it in a friends Mini and I was impressed. I really like the idea of the bars to protect everything. Plus you can't go wrong with factory engineered boxes.

the Integral Audio set up is my favorite 'sub enclosure' that I've seen. Very clean looking. The primary reason I'm considering their system over saving some money and doing a DIY set up.

Does anyone know if the newer JL stealthbox with the two 8W7s will fit in an R53? Or more importantly why it would not fit, if it would not fit in an R53? 2 W7s >> 1 W3

for the money you can do better half price. Two sundown audio SA-8 v2 are 189 apiec x2 380 =1 w7 . They rock though but I did my entire uprade under the cost of that stealt box. If money is not a factor it good but im no sure of fit in R53
