I was thinking of buying some 3m or similar vinyl and doing my own hood striping. went to my local car products store and saw "trimbrite" anyone heard of it, use it?

anyone think of a reason why I shouldn't do it?

 

I think Mothers makes a similar product called "Back to Black." Is this a plastic trim conditioner? If so, make sure it isn't oil based, this would allow more dirt to stick to your molding. There are non-grease products out there, the name just slips my mind.

As far as I know, Trimbrite is a company that makes vinyl products. I have "4x4" decals on my Suzuki made by Trimbrite. They've been on the truck for 11 years now. You could try that product and see how it comes out. If not, go to a local vinyl shop and have stripes made. That's another option for you.

 

I've done stripes for nearly 30 years. At my shop, I only use 3M pin stripes. Most of the stripe kits I've used have 3M adhesives and vinyl. Personally, I've never used Trimbrite, but I'd stay away from it. 3M is a mainstay. I'd use that.

3M is a household name that pretty much has a lockdown on the industry. This doesn't mean that anything else out there is garbage. You can try the trimbrite pinstriping. The most that will happen is it might not last long on the car. You won't get any damage from the adhesive anymore than you would from a dealer's logo. Since you say there are no vinyl shops near you, you could always get a hold of Vinyl Styles and see if they can make some pinstriping for you.
