i ordered the 3m stuff last week to do this as well. any tips from the guys who have done it? I've never worked with vinyl before, so any tips (no matter how small) will be appreciated. Also, is the dash just tug and it comes off? i know hot to remove the downtubes, but thats about it.

The dash is not to hard to remove but you will need to take some screws out, be carefull with the airbag part as you dont want to break the clips.
There is a good thread here someplace with pictures.
good luck and take some pictures when you are done

The door panels are removeable but you dont need to do that with the dry carbon wrap, The guy who did mine left them on the car and did them in less then an hour. I would want this done in the warmer weather or in a warm garage so you can get a good tight fit
BTW Dr. Phil, I love that shift boot, but I could never find it since reading the DIY.
So essentially, how much carbon fiber wrap do you need? And what's the cost of something like this? Looks like a REAL nice DIY project that I want to do. I hate my anthracite dash and door panels. It's the top of my dislike list.

I think the stuff is about $10 a square foot in reasonable quantities. The dash didn't take all that much, maybe 4.5ft wide by 1 foot deep. So it should cost about $60.
I bought quite a bit of the stuff, and might do the doors in spring. I was also thinking of doing the Sparco seat backs. I decided against using on the exterior only because all my exterior CF is real, and it looks quite different (nice, but not the same.) So I have real CF on the outside and vinyl CF on the interior.
Also, if it's 3M it's real, regardless of the price. PM me for a supplier.

just did this last night, and while its not perfect, unless you look at it very close, you wouldn't know i messed up really. It was my first attempt ever with vinyl, and i ended up doing 2 of the 5 dash pieces and 2 down tubes perfect (the last 2 i did, because i found out applying constant heat while working this stuff makes it like super stretchy cloth, and makes it much easier to work with) but for ~$60-80 worth of material, its well worth it in my book. Didn't mess up on the down tubes either (or nothing thats visible at least)
