16" Steel Rims

Anybody know of a source for 16" steel rims that clear R53 JCW brakes? Ive called a number of local wheel shops and they all said they dont have a listing. Perhaps something from another manufacturer that could work?

Still no luck finding any. There are a few shops left that are closed weekends but its looking more and more like these are going to be unobtainium.

I know that VERY FEW 16 alloy rims will work too....if I remember only one or two of the OEM 16 alloys will fit....for the most part, you are stuck with 17+ with the JCW's brakes unless you run spacers...but that is tuff on you car, and cost more than you will save on the rims.

According to the mini2 wheel faq there are 4 oem 16s that will fit. I'm not exactly sure what causes interference on the other oem 16s but I do see aftermarket listings for R56s. I was under the impression that these would fit an R53 JCW. Perhaps my only alternative is to find some of the cheapest aftermarket alloys if I want to run 16s this winter.

I think it is just the shape of the castings and what they leave or don't leave behind in the machineing of them. Good luck....oem wheels do tend to be heavier and stronger....hense the fewer oems than aftermarket that will work. Also r53 jcw and STD r56 calipers are the same I think....so r56stuff may work for you.... The lug bolts are thicker... Like on the last of the r53's, but that should not effect you.
Many owners buy used oem rims cause they are strong and can be found pretty cheaply used. Just a thought.
