R56 2009 JCW w/ 9k miles - fair price?
2009 JCW w/ 9k miles - fair price?
I am trying to sell my 2009 JCW and have had it listed at $27,200, which is the lowest price I've been able to find in the entire country, but still no deal. Just lowered it to $26,900, but am wondering if anyone else who has been keeping an eye on the market for JCW's knows what a reasonable price for private party sale would be? All of the ones on autotraders/cars.com/ebay are in the $28-35k range. Original MSRP was $30,300. Any input is appreciated, thanks.
Figure on a $30k MSRP, your invoice was about $27k. You're going to have to be a few thousand below invoice if you want to sell it, in my opinion.
What was MSRP? yours seems pretty basic, keep in mind that many of the others that you are competing with might have had much higher MSRPs...

There really isn't any competition though.....there's like 5 or 6 of them for sale in a 200 mile radius and only one even comes close to the same price, and that one is at $28.9k and also fairly stripped down. Most of the ones with higher MSRPs/option levels are priced accordingly in the $30-35k range. I feel like I'd be ripping myself off selling for $24-25k.

Average customer can go to a new MINI dealership right now, and if they still have 2009 JCW models on the lot with the new 2010s here and coming in, get a really good deal on one. Maybe not invoice, but well below MSRP. And they can get cheap financing. And it is new.
So, if you are "average customer"... would you buy the new 2009 with $30k MSRP for $28,500 and get 1.9% financing, or do you buy the used one with miles on it for $27,000?
I know that if I were the "average customer", the price delta would have to be $2,500-3,000 for me to start to consider the used one. Even more if I need financing or have a trade in.
Just some food for thought.
Ok... so look at this another way.

"a reasonable price"?
A reasonable price is the amount a willing buyer agrees to pay a willing seller in an arms'-length transaction. So assuming you're a willing seller, what's the smallest amount you'd be willing to take in an arms'-length transaction?
The point is this: your car is not "worth" anything; that is, it has no intrinsic value. That's how markets work.

I just bought a 09 PW JCW w/ 11k miles on it. It has premium pkg, convenience pkg, cold weather pkg, xenons, and fogs front and back. I got it from a dealer. They had it listed for $28,900 and I got it out the door for $26,000. Within 100 miles of me there was only 1 other JCW for sale. It was a brand new 09. I went with the used because I wouldnt have qualified for the 1.9 financing, I wanted PW (the other was CR), and it had more options that I wanted. I dont know if this helps your question at all. Just thought Id throw it out there.
