Will 15 inch wheels fit on a 2007 R56 Cooper S?

Hi all,

A local guy is selling a set of 175/65 R15 wheels and tires for snow.

Tire rack says 15" wheels fit on the MCS but I wanted to make sure before I buy them.

Also, I know that narrower tires are better for the snow, is there any reason why 175's would be too narrow?

Thanks,
KJ

Which specific 15" wheels are you considering? None of the OEM 15" wheels will fit. Some aftermarket 15" wheels can fit but many won't.

+1

They will fit an R53 MCS, but not an R56 MCS. Your front brakes are too big.

The wheels I'm considering are THESE which I believe are OEM Mini wheels.

With 11.7" brake rotors I was thinking they'd fit even when adding a few inches for the caliper...no?

Also, apparently the seller went to the local dealer to ask about fitment on my car. Someone gave him a lug bolt and told him if the bolt fit in the wheel they'd fit on my car...can anyone explain the logic there?

Thanks!

The newer cars use larger lug bolts. Pretty sure the wheels in the pic are from an older vert..Wont fit your car.

I have not tried 15" rims but tirerack has been consistently saying that the 15" rims do fit a R56 MCS. This has been very different from the prevalent info on NAM. Maybe you should call alex @ tirerack to see what he says.

Actually the lug bolt the tech gave him did fit the wheels, so he believes the wheels will fit the R56...that said, does the lug have any bearing on the diameter of the wheels being large enough?

(I realize lug size in general has nothing to do with wheel fitment, but was thinking maybe Mini decided that wheels that will fit the MCS have lug size X while all others have lug size Y or something like that)

Tire Rack does have some 15 inch rims that will fit an R56 MCS. That however does not mean all 15 inch rims will fit.

I have a set of 15 inch holey wheels for winter use. They are very close to the calipers on my R53 with smaller brakes than the OP's car.

I guess I should have said late model 06 wheels and up are 14mm lugbolts.

The R56 MCS uses the brakes that were JCW brakes for the earlier MCS. So, what fits over the brakes of a 1st. Gen MCS might not fit over the brakes of a 2nd Gen MCS.

I think that the 15" wheels you want are the ones that are 16".

16 inch = the new 15 inch....

I remember a time when a 15 incher was considered a big wheel. 13 inch was the norm back then. Time marches on.

My 06 MINI had the JCW brakes, the same as the basic brake package now. Of the 1 gen wheels, none of the 15 wheels would fit. Heck they (MINI) did not recommend some of the 16 wheels. I had to use the spare once, had to mount the spare on the back as it would not clear the front brake caliper.

Looked at the picture you posted same type wheels, I had on my last car from the factory. They will fit on the front, but the wheel won't turn.
