Chopped up tires

Just replaced Goodyear F1 set with 44K. Needed replaced due to being chopped up on the inside. It became noticeable at about 25 to 30K. Rotated tires at 5K. I used the car for work and carried a pretty heavy load in the back. I sure as heck don't want the new tires to end up like the ones I just removed. Any thoughts?

What kind of stuff did you carry and what did it weigh? What size tires were they? Rim width & diameter? Kept up on psi?

You might need to find a tire with a higher load rating.

Have you checked the alignment?

Is it scalloped?

If it is, then you need an alignment as ron suggested. The issue is probably too much toe out. An alignment should also improve gas consumption as well from less scrubbing.

Can't tell you the exact weight, don't have that job now so I am more careful about loading. 17" wheels run at 35 PSI. Local shop thought alignment was OK but he did say he couldn't align the car. Bet you guys are right about alignment but sure couldn't tell it from the way it drove. Thanks for the feedback.

If it is an R56, they can adjust front and rear toe. They cannot adjust front camber too much.

Go to another alignment shop to see what they say. You can choose one from the tirerack.com, under installations. Just look for one in your area. They all have ratings and services listed. Many shops now have laser alignment equipment which is really good.

What is the build date (found on the drivers door jam) of your MINI and type of MINI? This is a common issue that can be fixed. We just need more details about your MINI to better help you.
