Suspension tuning viewpoints

09 S. Single driver, run flats. The rear hops over expansion joints. I would like the tires to remain in contact with the road. Maks flying around on-ramps less dramatic.
Your views on root cause:
1: Run flats just too stiff
2: shock just too stiff
3: rear spring rate just too high (probably set for max load)

My experience setting up my RSX with KW's was the spring rate.

I have not driven the HD shock car or a JCW. How do they fair in this?

Dumping the runflats will help some. They ARE too stiff and handling with non runflats is much better. I went with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S PLUS tires.

Alta claims that the hopping about on rough surfaces is due to the rubber used in the lower control arm bushing in the front suspension.

The MINI has very minimal adjustments to the front suspension, toe in or out only. ALTA has seen tremendous benefits from changing the levels of caster in the front. This increase in caster allows sharper more precise response from steering input. Decreases understeer and improves overall feel.

Also, the OEM lower control arm bushings supplied from MINI are a very gooey like rubber compound. While great to reduce road noise, they are miserable at improving handling. As a result even the most minor of imperfections in the road surface can cause the car to dart around. The ALTA PSRS uses a firm bearing material that prevents this. This inspires confidence in all driving conditions, and again adds positive steering response.
Perhaps someone who has installed their PSRS can comment on how effective it is. I'm tempted, because there are a lot of winding roads where I live that don't have the smoothest road surface. Having the steering wheel jerk around on curves is disconcerting.

Unfortunately, this seems to be a difficult install. Not something I'd want to do myself. I'm also concerned about it increasing road noise in the cabin. I've gone to a lot of trouble to try and reduce road noise.

Would that stop the steering wheel jerking when hitting a bump on a turn?

Our '07 MCS is much, much smoother without run flats. Before doing anything to the suspension I'd try different tires.

The PSRS is $209 I believe for the front control arm bushings. The labor to install PSRS or poly bushings for the front will be identical, it's the same amount of disassembly...
