New clear side markers

Yes, another day, another project. It started with the idea that I don't like any of the white lenses. I prefer clear and a bit of understated bling and quality. I needed something smooth, efficient in light transmission, and different in form. I started off with 3/4 inch clear, shaped the oval, and cut the hole with an end mill. I was going use a round end mill. but don't like how the shape condenses the light. I made a backing plate out of 1/8 black and tried three ways to seal it. It attaches via two screws from the back. That is the only mod to the frame. I finally got it sealed with some thin two way adhesive film. I am going to try to do another pair, and may sell these if the new ones are better. I machined the bulb holder, it is plug and play with the OEM system. It all fits very nice. Always had that desire to make if you can't buy it.

Once again, nice work! Since you modified the scuttle slightly in order to utilize the two screws to mount the lenses, perhaps you could leave two posts on each end of the lenses, and then thread the posts. You could then mount them to the scuttle with two nuts. This would prevent you from seeing the screws through the lenses from the outside.

It's called a scuttle?

I was going to do a straight tap into the clear acrylic. Since I had these brass heat press inserts, I used them. I can see using some kind of PEM insert from the other side and only seeing the head, which is flat and somewhat less intrusive. The black plate behind the lens was an afterthought, when I realized that the scuttle hole was so visible. The general shape is what I am looking for, but the next will have a small diameter oring between the lens and the backing plate. Night photos never work out for me, and catching a blinking light at night is not in my skill set. The brass inserts don't really bother me that much, but since the whole idea is to smooth out the design, I may begrudgingly move to stealth. Thanks for the input.

Sticking out too far

I know there is a joke in the title, but will stay away. They appear to, but only in reality by .300 of an inch. The fit better than the OEM, because they sit just within the lip, whereas the OEM lights sit with a boundary of around a tenth of an inch on mine around them. I believe the function of the lights on the side are there to alert drivers on your side to see your intention to turn. A bit more of a protrusion to me is a bit more functionality. I have always believed that form follows function. Thanks for your input, constructive criticism is always welcome.
