Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't those the halogens?

No, they are xenon, they even say xenon technology in the light. And the ballast is on the back of the light.

Those are Xenons offered from 2002 to about 10/04.

There is no difference in the joey mod between the two types of housings, the lenses come off in similar fashion....

Any pictures? What can I paint? I haven't seen any xenons on here that have the Joey mod done to it.

Yeah there is a joey modded 02-04 Xenon style HD light set up here somewhere.....it was done in black

Most of the front facing lower portion mirror finish is painted any color you want. Just not the reflector for the High Beam and the front of the Xenon lens....

If you dont know what your doing, it can be an expensive ooooops!

I have a set for sale in the marketplace for $250.00. Nice to have a back up set just in case............

and, not sure of what the laws are in your state, but Lamin-x "tint" would look great on your MINI given the fact you have already
painted the trim rings black......it's not permanent and the plain "tint" they sell is light enough to give the effect you are looking for. It's great stuff, have used it often for last three years.

http://www.lamin-x.com/Mini-Cooper-0...rs-p/mn003.htm

"Tint" version is good,
"Gunsmoke" is too dark IMO.

Yeah, I Like the Lamin-x but I live in Houston and cops do not stand for it, I am pretty comfortable with taking the headlights apart because I have taken my Kawasaki ZX-6R Headlights apart to put Angel Eye's in them, So I will probably tackle it this weekend! This is how I hope they come out!

I have the same headlights you do, I'm just gonna make the switch to the projectors and do the joey mod on them.

The later 'projector' style headlights were available as xenon, or are all xenon.

The 2002 style wins in my book. I'm not a fan of the '05 & '06 projector styles, they cause the car to loose some of the cuteness & look kind of creepy.

This is a great thread, but focuses mostly on the newer Xenons: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...od-how-to.html

There's another short thread on pre-facelift joey mods, and although many have been done, there's some that argue the glue is stiffer and so the lamps are harder to split. It's still worth a try.

I can't find a thread on modding the older lamps, but look for MSFTOY as his car has them.

Good luck with the project.
I have an 02 that I want to do the same thing with my xenons.
I have a spare light that I tried to take apart, but it was super difficult to work with. I heated the casing up with a heat gun, but only accomplished melting the black housing.
Please let us know how your project goes.

If I can't get it unglued, then the dremel is coming out! Lol, I will let you know this weekend, well it's either the headlights or I am going to wire a switch into the speedo harness and then go to the mini dealer, (which is like an hour away) and have them activate the OBC...debating which to do first...

No actually I was gonna go with the 05-06 OEM projectors. I am still on the fence about it, but they cost alot since you have to buy the whole thing and can't buy the housing only. All the ebay projectors I have seen say not for use with HID but there might be some that can withstand the heat. I don't want halo projectors, so that isn't an option. I might be getting my lights joey modded anyway for now...a nice matte black will do

did my painted housings recently, managed to find these 06 xenons in a scrapyard for £100 for the pair.

If you can find newer xenons it is worth it. They illuminate the road so much better than the old ones with a clearer light. IMO the pre facelift xenons are only as good as halogens apart from the cool blue light.

I used a hair dryer to split them, is pretty easy if you follow dr phils guide. I have heard there is a bolt on the first shape lights you have to undo, but other than this its identical.

Prise off headlight rings, if you break clips its no biggy as you can bond them to the lights after. Heat up around edge and prise up. Just take lots of time to do them.

Well, there goes that idea! Turns out, one of the lens had a small tiny chip and as soon as I got to pulling, snap! Now I am stuck with a broken lens, looks like ebay headlights are going to have to do...sucks

Will my wiring system plug up to those headlights from ebay? Cause I have the Xenon kit?

I am going to paint them anyways cause I have to have lights for now, but does anyone think I can find just a lens? Anyone have one? Is there somewhere I can post to see??!? Cause I would much rather keeps these! Not too big on eBay headlights. I need the left one if you are looking at the car, right one if you are sitting in the car. Thanks!

Have you checked the Marketplace? I see headlight assemblies on there from time to time. You can probably get two for the price of one eBay headlight. (I don't actually know eBay prices though)
