So I visited my parent last week and was watching Barret-Jackson Aution on SpeedTV with my father. There was a 71 Chevelle that went for like $80K and some 1953 Pontiac Covertible that went for $65k. And my father was telling me that he had a 1964 Chevelle Malibu SS and he sold it for $450 cause my mother let her sister borrow it for 4 days and seen my mothers sisters' boyfriend driving it in town. And the 1953 Pontiac Convertible, my mother had one when my father met her. Thi got me thinking, I wonder what are the cars we are driving today that will be tommorows classics. Well if I can afford to keep mine w/o a warranty after it is up (I'm 18, bought the car with college money :D) then I'll def keep it for a while. If I keep it more than ten years it's never gonna go unless I really really need the cash (which I assume will be dumped into either another car or still into the mini). My gf and I should be getting an appt soon so if we can afford to live w/o debt there then I'll prob keep it for good.

hey malteseracer, what made your scoop become functional? poking holes?.. what makes it functional versus not functional? (in the r56's)
people just told me supercharger = functional scoop and turbo = purely aesthetic (SORRY OFF TOPIC!)

 

Generally, MY 2007 had non functional closed hood scoops. All other MY have open functional scoops.

 

Surprised the 2001-2002 BMW M Coupe is not there.

This sort of stuff changes dramatically enough from year to year, its hard to be taken too seriously. Honestly, who knows what will be popular in 20 years? The list where the Mini was #2 is from Jan 2007. Here's something more current and the Clubman is #7.

Time is A funny thing. In 1960 we decided to buy a keeper car. Started by
first seeing what was affordable, second could it be worked on by an amature. Got down to two cars, a ragged out 57 T-bird with a 3 speed stick
for $1400 and a 54 MG TF, pretty ratty,for $450. Decided on 54 TF as I thought I could restore it for the difference. As it turns out the T-bird is worth more today but the TF is much rarer and more fun to drive.
P.S. We still have the TF. Pick something you like and stick with it.

 

That's a very subjective list. I tend to think that some of the cars on the list are way too mass produced to ever really become valuable. Collectable maybe, valuable....meh? I would see the Viper, original TT, and Elise as the most viable on that list. MINI's are mass produced but certainly not to the level of Scions and Jaguars, if future models veer too far from the original "new" MINI, I could see R53's and R56's having some credence.
To the poster who thought the BMW M-Coupe should be added, I kind of agree but think the car might be too "cultish" to ever expand out of its hardcore afficionados. The first M coupe, as well as the Z4M coupe, were both outstanding performers that never really caught on saleswise. I cross-shopped a 2006 MZ4 coupe against the Cayman S I ended up buying, the main reason it lost out was I couldn't find one early on to testdrive and all the dealers wanted MSRP. Caymans were readily available for testdrives and had some pretty good deals on "leftover" '06's. A year later, BMW had factory incentives that had MZ4's selling new for $10K under MSRP. I'm guessing only a 1000 or so were sold.

 

I would really like to get a 2002 BMW M Coupe with even rarer, no sunroof option. Since there was only 690 S54 engined M Coupes built between 2001-2002, specifically, with only 70 of them rumored to be 2002 builds. There is only 100 "No Sun Roof" M coupes of the 690 total. My color of choice would be either not so popular Laguna Seca Blue or the disliked Phoenix Yellow metallic. If this car even exists?

 

My bad my dream car does exsist, according to owner there are 2 of the 2002 M Coupes with no sun roof.

Both Laguna Seca Blue and Phoenix Yellow Metallic were limited colors available for the S54 engined E46/Z3 M cars. This is the Phoenix Yellow Metallic below. (minus tail light blackout)

 

You're close. Z4MC owner here. I bought in August '07, when BMW was giving dealers $5k in "trunk money" to move them. A grand total of 1,815 coupes were sold between '06 & '08 in the USA, and a slightly higher number overseas.

That Hagerty list is silly. Scion? Toyota FJ? Puh-lease. I agree that the Z3MC should be there. Cult car? Sure. Collectible future classic? Absolutely. Z4M? Not so much, though it's a superior car technologically in a lot of ways. I absolutely love mine.

 

When I bought my E46 M3 in 2003, dealers were still getting pretty close to MSRP for them although they were readily available. Someone at my Houston dealer had ordered not one, but three of them in Phoenix Yellow. My salesman called them "no-sello yellow." Had discounted offers from them and another dealer on PY's but was advised that it could be a deturrent at resale time. In the couple weeks that I was looking, a 6 month old Silver Gray coupe sold at the dealership was being traded back in for a 7 series with about 7K miles on it. It was immaculate and I ended up getting it around $8K under its original MSRP with CPO warranty. Really enjoyed that car for the next three years. The new E90-92 M3 has been undergoing an indentity crisis. I've driven one and it's fast as all get out, but the timing of releasing a porky, gas guzzling V8 wundercar when they did was bad. Instead of creating waiting lists like the E46 did when new, BMW was forced to give trunk money in the first year of production and chances are there's still a handful of new '08's on dealer lots with 2010's incoming.
