AC Noise On Passenger Side Only W/ Fresh Air Selected
AC Noise On Passenger Side Only W/ Fresh Air Selected
06' MCS, 30+k
I will switch between Recycled and Fresh Air dependent on traffic and location etc.
Today I switched to Fresh Air and turned the setting to 4 (A Hot West Texas Day!) and a rather horrid noise poured from the passenger side. It occurs regardless of driving, or sitting idle, initial daily start up or continued driving.
The air temp is constant and cold, as is output, and there is no change of the noise in pitch or type even when turning the steering wheel.
I might suspect the steering pump, or something in the serpentine belt line up.
I have looked and listened and inspected and have yet to find the culprit.
I am most thankful for ideas, tests or methods to find and stop it.

Check the AC compressor clutch to see if it is turning with AC on or if the belt just pulls over it. Maybe pull the belt and turn all the pulleys by hand.
See if the noise is louder under dash or under hood. Maybe there's a wierd blend door or blower motor problem.
You could try listening to different components with a stethoscope.
Sounds like a fun one. I'm curious to find out what it is.
