r56 and torque steer

Isnt it strange that there is no sign of torque steer on the steering wheel when making a fast start?
Why is that? I mean, when you try this in the Astra OPC or the new Ford Focus RS there is little movement in the steering wheel! But on my mini with the lsd, there is no movement! Is that right?

I get LOTS of torque steer when I hit it hard. Feels like the diff is "hunting".

I have LSD as well. Slamming it WOT in 2nd gear I'll get a tiny bit of torque steer. After that it's practically non-existent.

I get significant amounts of torque steer/anti-torque steer oscillation with my LSD equipped MCSm when I punch it in 2nd.

I haven't punched it hard enough to experience the torque steer.
but
Have you guys ever took a right turn at an intersection a little faster/sharper than normal to get that go-kart feel, and as you swing into the left lane your MINI runs over one or two of those reflector-central markers in the road and the impact throws off your steering a bit? Scary feeling; but i love the adrenaline. Gotta be more careful

2nd huh? I wonder why Clarkson (TopGear) tests torque steering by using only 1st gear. I recall he did that in both the AstraOPC and the new FocusRS!

I get it in first as well, may even get it in third. I just like gettin' it on in 2nd gear.

Drive in the hills, forget fear
Gettin' it on in second gear

Does it pull one way, and then the other, like a drunken sailor? If so, it has LSD.

I have never experienced torque steer in my '07 MCS unless I have the steering wheel turned sharply left or right. I can take my hands off the wheel for a straight line acceleration run and no torque steer. I've got LSD and it is lowered about an inch. Some "experts" seem to think the lowering is why no straight line torque steer.

Yep, and I've posted several times about it. Real sphincter pucker.

Got to remedy this, cause the right foot on my 6sp is not getting any lighter.

Ok but why doesnt the steering wheel turn (when punching into first gear) like Clarkson indicates in the Astra OPC and Focus RS?

I believe what I have is not torque steer. It's MINI's steering is hunting when front suspension is unloaded and body leans left-right under heavy acceleration.

The point of a LSD is to eliminate torque steer so if u have one u wont get it, if you didnt then you will

This is not exactly correct. The R56 Mini, especially high torque models such as MCS or JCW with LSD, suffers from "anti-torque steer", very similar to torque steer. "Anti-torque steer" is a term used by motoring file and not my choice.

It is an abrupt engagement of the LSD during a turn upsetting the car's balance and making it push suddenly to the outside of the corner. It happens mostly in bumps. There is some info from UK and Europe about this issue. That is the reason why the 2009 Factory JCWs and the 2010 onward Minis no longer have the mechanical LSDs.

Nope, it is to minimize wheel spin and get more power to the road. The LSD has torque steer, followed by anti-torque steer, followed by torque steer, etc. This oscillation makes hard acceleration "interesting" but I'd rather not have it.

This must be specific to MINI OEM LSD.

'Cause I have Quaife at my other FWD car, and so far the way it works - it eliminates understeer big time. It's pretty straightforward - inner wheel has less traction in the turn, so it spins under acceleration. Torque sensing diff will transfer extra torque to the outside wheel making both wheels work the road and car's nose stay planted. Without LSD once inner front wheel spins - it has little or no lateral grip, and another wheel's grip is not enough - so the nose goes out, the car understeers.

If you accelerate strong enough to make both of your wheels spin - the outer wheel will push car's nose inside the turn pretty similar way to Honda's ATTS system.

But if you went into the turn too fast, then nothing helps - the car will follow it's natural handling attitude and LSD influence is minimal here.

Tested at autocross many times.

I haven't taken MINI there yet.
