R56 Seats and my booty!
Seats and my booty!
Is it me or are the seats somewhat uncomfortable?
I have leather seats (with white/cream piping). It seems like there is something that is under the cushions, on the sides, that is hard and uncomfortable. I'm 5'7" and 180lbs so I'm not unusually wide :D
I also have a 335 with sports seats and they aren't comfortable on long trips. But the BMW seats are uncomfortable for long stretches while the MSC seats kind of hurt after 15 minutes.
Am I alone with this?

For what it's worth. I have the standard leatherette sport seats and have always found them uncomfortable. The side bolsters hurt the sides of my legs especially on long trips but also around town. If I drive more than about 30 minutes I start squirming. My wife finds them comfortable however...so go figure. I really wish Mini would offer the regular seats (non-sport) in leather (with adjustable lumbar) and make them available in the MCS.
I have the full leather sport seats. I believe the leather sport seats are different from the leather w/ white piping seats.
In any case, I love the way my seats feel. They seem very snug, firm and give great support. They are what I'd expect from a sporty seat made of leather. My Porsches seats are really high quality leather and feel even stiffer/firmer. Yet I like it that way, ...they are created for peformance, not luxury. My wife's Camry's seats are super comformtable, yet you feel like taking a nap when driving that car and the handling sucks. I think our Mini's seating and ergonomics are more sport minded than most cars (at least my sport seats are).
Unfortunately when it comes to comfort I don't think there is a one size fits all approach that will work for everyone. Best Mini can do is offer several options ...which they do.

yeah, i have the leather seats with white piping. the back of the seat is fine. the butt of the seat though is not the most comfortable. on the left side of the seat, there is a plastic panel. when you sit in the seat and are sitting on the bolster at all, you are pressing up against that plastic panel (for me anyways). basically pinning the seat between your leg/butt and the panel. of course the panel wins and i feel like i have a lump in the seat that just pokes me. i am tempted to remove/cut the panel and just deal with it later.
there was another thread on this topic not too long ago. the user put some memory foam on the seat (to fill in between the bolsters) and then covered the seat in a nice seat cover. i would hate to have to cover up my $2000 leather option with after-market seat covers :(
for giggles, i might call the local mini dealer and ask how much a standard (non-sport) seat is. just take mine out and use that. i sat in one at the dealer when i was there not too long ago and it was much more comfortable than the sport seat.

I find them comfortable. I've driven 350 mile runs between Los Angeles and Carmel without butt fatigue.
Mine are cloth sport seats without the lumbar support. I think I'd like them better with lumbar support (may install it eventually). I'm 6 ft. 155 lbs. My bony butt is fine, my back wearies after about 5 hour of driving.

My longest one day drive so far is 11 hours. How many miles is irrelevant because we were motoring the whole way on the blue highways and few were straight. I'm 6' 180 lbs and felt no fatigue whatsoever. I think the whole issue depends entirely upon the shape and size of your coccyx. Love that word, its hard to find good place to use it. Thanx NAM!
5'6" 150. I would prefer the side bolsters be adjustable. Tight for hummin', loose for goin' with the flow.
If you get a butt fatigue try moving the seat around a bit. Stroke or two up or down, new tilt angle, give or take some on the reach. Anything to alter your position for a stretch.

I have recently made trips of 400 and 500 miles in a day in my 07 MCS, 6-8 hrs. in the saddle. Cloth seats. No problem with fatigue, cramps or discomfort. I use cruise control abundantly and take advantage of this by doing exercises with my feet and legs, which definitely helps to reduce fatigue. The seats fit me fine, but I agree with a previous poster above that the MINI sport seats may suit certain physiques better than others.
I too find that some days, afer just 20 minutes my bum gets sore. Usually after my wife drives it and adjusts the seat. And on long trips I need to adjust the seat a few times to relieve the fatigue. So I tend to stop and get out every hour or so. Has anybody replaced the seats with aftermarket like Recaro?
I think I've seen pictures on here with Recaro-type seats.
I adjusted the seat today by lowering it. So far it may be a little better. It just seems like there is some kind of plastic piece or something that is on the sides (under the padding) and vertical. If things don't get better I may have to call up an upholstery shop and see if there is any surgery that can be performed on the seats. This seat issue CANNOT ruin the whole experience for me.

It's not the suspension for me. When, under duress, my wife drives and I'm the passenger I don't get the same problems. Guess because I can change my position that much more. Also changed from the run flat tires to regular and that made for a smoother ride.
