How to remove the intake silencer – resonator (Cooper 03)

Hello everybody,

I was looking for ages on the forum but I couldn’t find anything about this. Only that it is a hell of a job to do.

I’m gong to install a BMC CDA on my Mini Cooper 03.

Now I’m trying to remove the intake silencer - resonator (Part No 3 and 5) but I haven’t got an idea how to.
Is there anyone who knows how to remove this parts or anyone who done it before?

I really would appreciate it if someone could give me some advice.

Best regards

I removed 3 but left 5 in when I put in a MiniMania (now Ultrik) cold air intake,
which replaces 1,2, and 3 with a smoother larger intake tube that just goes right
into the filter box, and replaces the top of the filter box with one that's smooth on
the inside and has the MM logo on the outside.

It just took a very hard tug and twist to pull part 3 out of part 5.

Use a long prybar to pop it out at the bottom, just be careful of the A/C lines.
I do it all the time because we remove the silencer to install the Way/DDM intakes. It can be a PITA, but the prybar works the best. I have had a few customers just cut it off after getting frustrated about not being able to get it out.

It is a PITA to remove the damn resonator. I removed mine a while ago, it took me a few hours trying, i made it in the end, but i broke sth, the no5 on the diagram i think.
