I was installing lights on my MINI a couple months ago when I had something very weird happen. The windows were up all the way, key in the ignition but off. and at the time this happened I wasn't touching any existing electrics. All of the sudden both windows go down half way and stop. I was a little freaked out thinking someone was in the car. I go around and check everything, my key was still in the off position and nobody in it. Is the MINI posessed by a ghost or is there a feature built into it? If it is posessed that must be on happy ghost!!!

Possibly the convenience open feature might have been hit on the key?

When I first picked up my Mini, something similar happened to me. One morning as I'm walking out to get in my new Mini and to go to work, I noticed that my windows were partly down and the doors were unlocked. Well, in my neighborhood, you don't leave your doors unlocked, let alone the windows down. To this day, I don't know what happened. Perhaps the same thing as yours did. Perhaps, someone could have been inside your house playing with the second key? Or perhaps, it's just a way of our Minis expressing themselves. Nothing like this has happened since.

A "Ghost Thread"!!! How timely! Here's my story:

Well... OK, I don't have a MINI ghost story, wish I did.

God speed.

This isn't a ghost story, but my wife swears that my MINI is jealous. Whenever my wife gets in the passenger seat (she never drives, which is another story), the door always closes by itself and hits her in the leg.
Then, when the weather is nice, we roll the windows down and due to the lack of a real armrest, she puts her arm on the window sill. And soon after we're motoring down the street - the automatic door lock bites her upper arm. spooky.

Whatever is causing the windows to go down or doors unlock could be a major security issue. If these malfunctions occur a lot more often, word may get out to the thieves looking for MINI's. On a lighter note, there is food in the fridge that needs some attention.

I just had a similar thing happen yesterday. I'd parked my Mini at the local mega mall and I know the windows were up when I locked her because it was a cold blustery day and they hadn't been down. When I got back both windows were down the same amount: about two inches. I don't know if they went down a bit when I closed the doors (possibly since they do move when opening and closing, about 1/4 inch I think. Or they may have done so when I punched to unlock when approaching. This hasn't happened since but I hope this was a freaky one time thing. Tis the witching season I guess.

No other buttons were hit to make this happen. My wife had the other set of keys, and she was at work. And my keys were in the ignition, but was shut off. Noone was around her when she decided to roll down the windows. And they looked down exactly half way. This was the only time it happenend. I do remember the moonroof was open at the time. And I didn't hit anything on the car at the time.
