I'm thinking of getting the Roady or SkyFi and would like to know if anyone with a similar build date MINI knows whether the car has an aux input for direct connection. I know that later build dates (e.g. 2003) has the direct connection for the Sirius system.

If it does not, then I guess I'll have to settle for the FM modulator.

If you dont have a CD changer installed, you can use an adaptor made by Blitzsafe to use the changer input as an aux on the early models. Do a search of MCO for 'Blitzsafe aux adaptor' and you will find threads detailing the installation, with pics an procedures.

I do have the CD changer installed, and I'm aware of the Blitzsafe adapter. Not sure if you've answered my question about the aux input for the model, but you got it right with Blitzsafe. Thanks.

Mine is a July 02 build and no, the aux input on the back of the radio won't work. I bought the aux input kit from MINI, plugged it in and nothing. I returned it and bought the Blitzsafe auxiliary adapter and plugged my Roady into it. No more problems.

I bought a used '02 a month ago. I could've bought an '04, but I loved the color (red velvet/black roof) and it was available. I was assured that the aux input would work on my car. After taking delivery (cd changer and aux input installed), I discovered that the input did not work. The dealer looked into swapping out the head unit from my car for an '03 model. I'm finally going in next week to get the work done, and I've been assured that this will work. We'll see.

I read that the 2002 MINIs did not support aux input from MINI but the 2003 and later supports it. The radio swap is a possible fix for those that own 2002 models. The two radios (2002 and 2003) are identical size and appearance.
Quite a few of us with stereo upgrades have 2003 head units (stock radios) lying around for sale.
