Easy Performance Upgrades?

I have an '09 MCS (please read signature for details) and was wondering what are some easy performance upgrades that I could do to get a little more oomph out of my car?

Please keep in mind I definitely fall into the beginner category as far as mechanical skill, but am willing to give it the college try.

I too am a beginner.
Alta has alot of good stuff.
I got: Alta Cold Air Intake ; Goes on easy with hand tools in maybe 30-60mins as a beginner.

Alta Hot Side Boost Tube ; Was a real pain in the *** but not really hard. See this thread here

Shift **** was fun and easy. I got mine from WhalenShiftMachine. Doug Whalen is that man and quality stuff isnt so easy to come by these days. Won't make you faster, but it's nice to get.

I'll be doing a Cold Side Boost Tube and Turbo inlet soon. The BT is supposedly a real PItA, but the inlet is a 15min install at best.

If you can get it, get a RMW ECU tune. Best bang for the buck mod hands down.

If not, look into getting a cat-back exhaust. Installation isn't all that difficult, you just need to have the proper tools. You'll definitely feel it more than something like boost tubes or a CAI, and believe me I've been down the mod route From what many people doing dyno tests to get the RMW tune, CAIs really don't add a whole lot of power. There is more restriction in the exhaust than the intake.

Has someone with a MCS gotten a RMW tune w/o any other performance upgrades? If so, what has your gains been before and after. Thanks.

I think I remember Jan posting something around 25-30whp with +40 ftlbs of torque LOL!

Just from a chip? or am i reading something wrong here...

I do not remember whether that is with some mods or without. Most MCS people who get the tune seem to have lots of mods.

I think Jan's tune has probably evolved by now. I certainly hope all us modders will get a bit more power with an added tune over a stock R56!

I checked out that thread looks pretty promising, but I couldnt find much information on how I would go about getting it done. Do i need to bring the car someplace or is it a chip i could install myself? The RMW site doesnt mention anything about this mod...

As I posted on your other thread, the best bang for the buck is like Shane said.... an RMW tune.

As Porthos mentioned, there are other things you can install but if I were to do it all over again, here are the top 4 things I would get.

RMW tune
exhaust
intercooler
cold air intake.

I listed them in importance and effectiveness IMO.

To get an RMW tune, follow the threads in the mod section about tuning parties. Jan floats around from town to town when he gets enough people together and the hosting shop will have access to a dyno.

He then comes and tunes your car there.

He is coming out with a handheld unit but it's been temporary placed on hold. Once out, you will be able to upload your own tune.

+1, same sequence for me as well if I get a do over. Then spend the rest of the money on suspension and brakes.

Forgot to add,

RMW Tune - easy, just get the car to jan
Exhaust - medium difficulty, easy if you have a lift.
intercooler - medium, about two hours, perhaps more for the first timers
cold air intake - easy

I thought the downpipe was a bigger HP upgrade then CatBack?

Yes, I think you are right. But with the CELs from the dp, I would wait.

Yes you are right, but that's a lot more involved than the cat-back. Heat shield bolts are a pain. Can't wait to tackle that when my Riss Racing exhaust comes...
