A/C stopped working...a trend?

During the hottest days on record for Seattle (103 believe it or not), my A/C stopped working. Just blew outside-temperature air. Called up Northwest MINI (they know me by name there - have had the car in 4 times for problems in 24k miles) and they got me in. Had to order a new compressor, but it's on backorder. Has anyone else seen this problem? Must be common if it's on backorder.

Failures so far:

Steering rack servo fail (had to replace entire rack) - done
Flywheel off balance (made loud knocking sound in neutral) - done
Oil pump timing chain (well-known R56 problem) - done
A/C Compressor - in process

I've got an early build MCS; I guess this is the price I pay for buying car so early in it's lifecycle. I'm buying the extended warranty.

I've an early build 07-S that's been back for the oil change at 12 months, and the service at the computer prompt...I'll be out of maint' well before the next service time by computer.

I figure the extended MAINTENANCE PLAN they are offering is a waste of dollars. The warranty already extends WAY out .... and what I'd be buying is 2 oil changes and maybe a set of pads and rotors (based on my driving habits).

I can do that for under $300 bucks (in my garage .... do it all the time....need brakes? call me).

POINT IS - be sure what you are buying. There's a MAINTENANCE PLAN and a WARRANTY .... they are DIFFERENT . . .

Prob a good idea given yr track record. Just the the Xtended warranty offered by yr dealer and y'll be OK. But remember: clutches wont be covered (at least they are not with my dealer's XW program through GE.)
