Get a Mini for 1 Year?
Get a Mini for 1 Year?
Hi,
my name is christoph and i am from austria. i registerd on this page a long time ago when there was only mini2.com and one other german forum.
i drive minis since i got my licence in 2002. starting with a cooper an upgraded to a cooper s in 2004. now i got a offer to work at the UCI for one year. my gf and i already found a place in laguna beach, and now the only thing which is missing is getting a car.
so i thought i get myself a mini again, but i don't know if i should spend so much on a used mini which i will only drive one year.
does anybody now if it is possible to rent cars for such a long time, or does anybody now someone who sells a mini or another car, or who is going for holidays and don't need the car in the meantime?
any idea would help,
cheers
christoph!
btw. if someone want to go out or do something, let me know.

I think leasing a brand new car for 1 year is going to be pretty expensive. If you just want a car for 1 year and don't want to put too much money into it (as in not having to pay for it up front) is to look into taking over someone else's lease for the last year (just google swap lease in google and several sites will come up).
One issue you may have though is being able to get a lease because of lack of a credit rating. I think things are similar in the US as in Canada. I moved to Canada from Europe around six years ago now and it was a pain getting any credit at all for the first few years because I had no credit history at all plus I had a temporary status (work permit as opposed to a permanent resident or citizen). I would be pretty surprised if any leasing company would give you a lease unless you could maybe put the full payment into a locked account up front.
